What Edmunds.com says...
The 2009 Jeep Wrangler can't be beat for heritage, image and no-compromises off-road ability. But compared to some other SUVs, it lacks refinement and power.
Pros
Superior off-road ability, fun to drive around town, rough-and-tumble image, choice of two- and four-door versions, upscale navigation system.
Cons
Noisy with standard soft top, finicky soft top operation, mediocre acceleration and on-road handling, no power mirrors, too many hard plastic contact points, security issues with zippered windows, poor side-impact crash test ratings without side airbags.
What's new
For 2009 the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited receive a handful of upgrades, including hill start assist, trailer sway control and a small storage net under the center stack.
Editor's Rating Score
Overall
7/10
A much improved version of the classic Wrangler with exceptional off road capabilities. Those looking for a daily driver, however, migth be disapointed by the basic interior and weak engine.

Dynamics
The 3.8-liter V6 lacks power on the highway, but has solid torque off road. Handling is much improved over previous Wranglers without reducing off road capability.7

Comfort
Ride quality in much improved versus its predecessor, but it's still not plush on the street. Seats are suprisingly comfortable over the long haul. Wind noise is down, but not out so if you want it quiet go for the soft top.7

Function
Most controls are easy to use since the overall design is very basic. Audio head unit has a more modern look and feel. Cargo space is above average for four door SUVs.7

Design/Build Quality
Still has the same Jeep look while adding modern features. Interior design is disappointing though, as it looks too cheap for a vehicle that can easily reach $30K.Detailed Profile
- Off-Road Ready In Rubicon trim, the Wrangler is the most capable off-road vehicle on the market. Even in standard trim, it can go places most SUVs can't.
- Image Enhancer As the only four door convertible on the market, the Wrangler still offers an open air driving experience that no other vehicle can match.
