2009 Toyota Venza Review from Edmunds.com

Edmunds.com8/10
Overall Rating

What Edmunds.com says...

The 2009 Toyota Venza is a new breed of vehicle, mixing crossover SUV attributes with a wagon. We think many families will find it to be pleasantly useful transportation.

Pros

Spacious interior, powerful and efficient engines, pleasant driving demeanor, comfy ride, innovative interior storage.

Cons

No third-row seat, can't tow or haul as much as other crossovers, dull driving experience.

What's new

The 2009 Toyota Venza is an all-new crossover wagon based on the Camry sedan.

Editor's Rating Score
Overall
8/10
A modern, utilitarian interpretation of the wagon with two excellent engine choices both of which are available with all-wheel drive.

Dynamics
V6-powered Venza is quicker than most crossovers, but four-cylinder still offers adequate performance. Handling, thanks to low overall height, is better than many crossovers. The Venza isn't inspiring to drive, however.

Comfort
Good ride quality, comfortable seats and plenty of room make the Venza quite comfortable. Reclining rears seats help, too.

Function
The Venza's large cargo area relative to other crossovers is a plus in such an unusual (wagon) shaped package. The Venza's controls are all logical and intuitive and there's ample interior storage in the large center console.

Design/Build Quality
Modern styling should help Toyota sell this wagon. It's screwed together well and should live up to Toyota's reputaiton for quality.

Detailed Profile

  • Family Friendly Wagons are family cars and this is a wagon.
  • Comfortable Large passenger space and comfortable seats are a Venza strongpoint.
  • Daily Commuter The daily commuter for those who need to haul the family in the evenings.
