Abilene

Shotwell Stadium is a stadium in Abilene, Texas. It was built in 1959, using Rice Stadium as a model. It was initially named the Public Schools... Stadium. The first game played in the Stadium was in the fall of 1959. Shortly after the first season, the stadium was renamed Shotwell Stadium, after the late P.E. “Pete” Shotwell, a longtime football coach at Abilene High School. It is primarily used for American football and soccer. It is also the home field of Abilene Christian University. The stadium has a seating capacity of 15,000 people. In addition to ACU, Shotwell Stadium is also the home field of Abilene High School and Cooper High School football games. The Abilene High/Cooper High rivalry game is played here every year and always fills the stadium. Shotwell was for many years the "informal" designated site for UIL's six-man football championships and in 2010 was designated as the formal site for the titles. The longest field goal in the history of all levels of organized football was kicked at Shotwell Stadium.

Samuel Adrian "Slingin' Sammy" Baugh was an American football player and coach. He played college football for the Horned Frogs at Texas Christian... University, where he was a two-time All-American. He then played in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins from 1937 to 1952. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the 17-member charter class of 1963. Baugh was born on a farm near Temple, Texas, the second son of James, a worker on the Santa Fe Railroad, and Lucy Baugh. His parents later divorced and his mother raised the three children. When he was 16, the family then moved to Sweetwater, Texas, and he attended Sweetwater High School. As the quarterback of his high school football team , he would practice for hours throwing a football through a swinging automobile tire, often on the run. But apparently, Baugh would practice punting more than throwing. Baugh, however, really wanted to become a professional baseball player and almost received a scholarship to play at Washington State University.

She is best known for her 1968 country and pop hit "Harper Valley PTA" , which missed becoming the Billboard Country and Pop number one hit at the same time. In subsequent years, she had moderate chart success with country music, but never again duplicated the success of "Harper Valley PTA". She became a born-again Christian and began recording gospel music during the late 1970s. Riley was born in 1945 in Anson, Texas. As a teenager, she married Mickey Riley and gave birth to a daughter, Kim Michelle Riley on January 11, 1966. Later, they moved to Nashville, Tennessee after receiving a letter from Weldon Myrick, who heard a demo tape of Jeannie's and believed she could be successful. In Nashville, Riley worked as a secretary for Passkey Music while recording demos on the side. Riley's career was stagnant until former Mercury Records producer Shelby Singleton received a demo tape of Riley's voice.

Randall Craig "Tex" Cobb is a former American boxer turned actor. Cobb was born in Bridge City, Texas, the son of Norma Grace and Williard Glynn... Cobb, a factory foreman. He was raised in Abilene, Texas, where he attended Abilene High School, and later Abilene Christian University. Cobb dropped out of ACU at the age of 19, and began karate training. He earned his blackbelt, yet craved full contact competition. He TKO'd El Paso Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion and karate blackbelt, David Ochoa, in the first ever professional kickboxing event in El Paso, Texas in 1975. The promoters were Robert Nava and boxing trainer Tom McKay under the guidance of boxing guru and matchmaker, Paul Clinite. Clinite signed Randall to a professional boxing contract a few weeks later. He also signed Ochoa who had fought amateur under the guidance of McKay as his trainer. Randy moved in with boxing trainer McKay at 6333 Weiland Way in El Paso, Texas. Clinite provided films of heavyweight boxers to study to get the huge Cobb a good style. After a few days, it was decided that Randall should work at learning the 'Joe Louis shuffle'.

Ann Wedgeworth is a Tony award winning American actress, best known for her role as Lahoma Vane Lucas on the daytime dramas Another World , Somerset... as Lana Shields on Three's Company , and as Merleen Eldridge on Evening Shade . She attended the University of Texas and was a childhood friend and high school classmate of Jayne Mansfield. Wedgeworth joined the cast of Three's Company in 1979. After the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Roper, Wedgeworth somewhat replaced Mrs. Roper's love-starved personality as Lana Shields, an older neighbor who has had three previous husbands. Lana first appears in "Love Thy Neighbor" , when Jack Tripper is talked into being Lana's date. "Mrs. Shields", as Jack originally addresses her, becomes head-over-heels in love with him, and by the end of the episode has moved in next door to Jack, Janet Wood, and Chrissy Snow. However, after a few episodes Lana's appearances became smaller and less frequent. Lana disappeared from the show before mid-season, with no explanation given.

Max Lucado is a best-selling author and writer and preacher at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. Ball gave her the stage name of "Carole", after her friend Carole Lombard because, Ball reportedly told Cook, "you have the same healthy disrespect for everything in general". Cook appeared regularly on two of her shows, The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. Ball was matron of honor at Cook's wedding in 1964 to actor Tom Troupe. Cook starred in the animated Disney film Home on the Range, as the voice of Pearl Gesner, the farmer of Patch of Heaven. She appeared in such feature films as The Incredible Mr. Limpet, Sixteen Candles, Grandview, U.S.A., American Gigolo and Summer Lovers. Her first film role was in Palm Springs Weekend. She made guest appearances on such TV shows as The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, Knight Rider, Magnum, P.I., Murder, She Wrote, Dynasty, Charlie's Angels, on a fourth season 1985 episode of The A-Team called "Members Only", and, more recently, on Grey's Anatomy. Shae D'lyn is an American actress. She's best known for her role as Jane Deaux/Cavanaugh on the ABC sitcom Dharma & Greg and as Cousin Vicki in... National Lampoons' Vegas Vacation. D'lyn was born Shae D'lyn Sherertz in Abilene, Texas. After graduating with honors from the University of Virginia, D'lyn worked as an investment analyst for Morrow & Co. on Wall Street. After a year in New York she moved to Boston as Vice President of real estate investment banking for Boston Capital Partners where she syndicated low-income housing to investors seeking tax credits. Bored with financial services, she applied for, and was accepted to acting school. Upon graduation she was immediately hired for her first leading role, which led to further leading roles in eight feature films, including Vegas Vacation and the later released Girlie Magazine Party. Her television work includes series regular Jane on Dharma and Greg, guest-starring appearances in Ellen, Law & Order and Quantum Leap.

David William Harper is an American actor. Harper is most noted for the role of Jim Bob Walton, which he first portrayed in the 1971 movie The... Homecoming: A Christmas Story, and subsequently in the series The Waltons. Apart from appearing in the later "Waltons" movies, he seems to have given up his acting career, although he does make personal appearances at "Waltons" functions.

Duane Whitaker is an American actor. Duane Whitaker is probably best known for his role in Quentin Tarantino's popular 1994 film Pulp Fiction as... Maynard, the sadistic pawn shop owner. He wrote and portrayed the title role in Eddie Presley . Whitaker also wrote, directed and appeared in Together and Alone. Other notable roles include; a racist cop in Tales from the Hood, the bouncer Roadrash in Hobgoblins, Boss Man in Feast, The Sheriff in Trailer Park of Terror, Luther in From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money , Buddy in Dead Letters , Winslow in Broke Sky, Mickey in Cordoba Nights and Dr. Bankhead in The Devil's Rejects. Most recently Duane has appeared in the feature films Albino Farm and Dozers and on TV in the Cold Case episode "The Brush Man" and appears in the new Rob Zombie film Halloween II. Whitaker has also written numerous screenplays including "Stripteaser." On March 31, 2010, American Cinematheque hosted a screening of Eddie Presley and "Together and Alone" at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles. Duane is a graduate of Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas.

Jerry Bob Abbott in Abilene, Texas, is a country music songwriter and record producer from Pantego, Texas. He is also the father of "Dimebag"... Darrell Abbott, and Vinnie Paul Abbott, both of Pantera, Rebel Meets Rebel and Damageplan. Abbott appeared on Pantera's Behind the Music in May 2006, where he spoke about his younger son, Darrell, mostly about how he used to be in the Kiss Army as a child. He was also the producer on the early Pantera albums Metal Magic , Projects in the Jungle , I Am the Night and Power Metal . He produced Bugs Henderson Group's "Still Flying".
