Adam Duritz

The Himalayans were a rock band formed in San Francisco in 1990 by Dan Jewett and Chris Roldan. They prided themselves on the quality of their live... performances, putting considerable effort into audio engineering to get a "studio" sound in live venues. The Himalayans disbanded amicably in 1991 when Adam Duritz left the band to form Counting Crows with guitarist David Bryson . The Himalayans song "Round Here" was recorded on Counting Crows' first album , and remains popular at their live performances. The Counting Crows hit "Mr. Jones" was titled after Marty Jones, Himalayans bass player and childhood friend of Adam Duritz. The band's only album, She Likes the Weather, was put together by Dan Jewett from a December 1991 studio recording of the band's set and their original demo tape, adding a few clips from radio interviews with the band. Tyrannosaurus Records released a digitally remastered version of "She Likes the Weather" on Thursday, April 12, 2007.

Sordid Humor was a musical band formed in 1987 by the duo of Tom Barnes and Jim Gordon. Barnes' unique vocal style and unusual phrasing was the... trademark of Sordid Humor, and he went on to lend his vocals and alt-rock guitar style to Engine 88, and a solo project called the Blimp. Sordid Humor played what, at the time, could best be classified as college rock, releasing several independent releases before breaking up in 1992. An EP entitled Tony Don't was released on vinyl in 1989 by Oedpius Records of San Francisco, CA. It contained the tracks "Jumping Jesus", "Apollo XIII", "First Goodbye", "Indian Ocean", and "Broken Desert". The only full length album now available, Light Music For Dying People, was released posthumously by Capricorn Records in 1994. Despite their limited success, Sordid Humor's music has survived in the choices of College DJs. They are notable for bringing together musicians such as Adam Duritz, who sang backing vocals on "Barbarossa" and several other tracks on Light Music, David Immerglück, who played bass on several tracks of the album, and David Bryson who produced several of their tracks.

Pop music is a genre of popular music which originated in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll. The terms popular music and pop music are often... used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of any form of music which is popular , whilst the latter is a specific genre of music which has qualities which would make it appealing to a large audience. Pop music, as a genre, is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles throughout its course such as urban, dance, rock, Latin and country, yet there are core elements which define it. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format which is often the verse-chorus structure, which generally make usage of repeated choruses, have a melodic sound, and have catchy hooks. So-called "pure pop" music, such as power pop, features all these elements, and for instrumentation uses electric guitars, drums and a bass; in the case of such music, the main goal is usually that of being pleasurable to listen to, rather than having much artistic depth.
