Stade 5 Juillet 1962 or 5 July 1962 Stadium , also known as El Djezair Stadium , is a football and athletics stadium located in Algiers, Algeria.... The stadium was inaugurated in 1972 with a capacity of 105,000. It served as the main stadium of the 1975 Mediterranean Games, the 1978 All-Africa Games, the 2004 Pan Arab Games, and the 2007 All-Africa Games. The stadium was one of two venues of the 1990 African Cup of Nations . It hosted 9 matches of the tournament, including the final match, which had a record attendance of approximately 120,000 spectators. In the final match, the home team Algeria defeated Nigeria 1-0 to win the tournament. It also hosted the 2000 African Championships in Athletics. After a formal compliance with current safety standards in 1999, the stadium was reduced to an 80,000 capacity, and following a new phase of renovation in 2003, the stadium's capacity has been reduced further to its current all-seater capacity of 76,000. Thomas Malcolm Muggeridge was an English journalist, author, media personality, and satirist. During World War II, he was a soldier and a spy. He is... credited with popularising Mother Teresa and in his later years became a Catholic and morals campaigner. Muggeridge's father, Henry , served as a prominent Labour Party councillor in the local government of Croydon, South London, as a founder-member of the Fabian Society, and as a Labour Member of Parliament for Romford . His mother was Annie Booler. One of five brothers, Muggeridge was born in Sanderstead, Surrey and grew up in Croydon and attended Selhurst High School there, and then Selwyn College, Cambridge, for four years, graduating in 1924 with a pass degree in natural sciences. He then went to India to teach. While still a student he had taught for brief periods in 1920, 1922 and 1924 at the John Ruskin Central School, Croydon, where his father was Chairman of the Governors.

With Claude Chabrol, Hanin co-wrote the scripts for a pair of spy films in the mid-1960s. Chabrol directed Code Name: Tiger and Our Agent Tiger , both featuring Hanin in the starring role of secret agent Le Tigre.

Annie Fratellini was a French circus clown and film actress. She was born Annie Violette Fratellini in Algiers, French Algeria to a Pied-noir family... of Italian descent. The fourth generation of one of Europe's most famous circus families, The Fratellini Family. Her father was Victor Fratellini. Her mother was Suzanne Fratellini. Her grandfather was Paul Fratellini, one of the Fratellini brothers a trio of famous European circus clowns. For years she avoided following her father, grandfather and 22 other relatives into the ring. Instead, she sang in music halls and nigtclubs. Fratellini launched her career with the Medrano and Pinder circuses when she was 14. Much later in her career, Fratellini became the first female circus clown in France, was a founder of the country's first circus school, and went on to a successful stage and motion picture career. In 1969, she starred in The Great Love and married the director of the film, Pierre Étaix, the person she credited with making her take her talent for clowning seriously. She was first married in 1954 to Pierre Granier-Deferre, she starred in his film, Metamorphose.

Martial Solal is a French jazz pianist and composer, who is probably most widely known for the music he wrote for Jean-Luc Godard's debut feature... film À bout de souffle . Solal was the son of an opera singer and piano teacher, who learned the instrument from the age of six. After settling in Paris in 1950, he soon began working with leading musicians including Django Reinhardt and expatriates from the United States like Sidney Bechet and Don Byas. He formed a quartet in the late 1950s, although he had been recording as a leader since 1953. Solal then began composing film music, eventually providing over twenty scores. In 1963 he made a much admired appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island; the Newport '63 album purporting to be a recording of this gig is actually a studio recreation. At this time, his regular trio featured bassist Guy Pedersen and drummer Daniel Humair. From 1968 he regularly performed and recorded with Lee Konitz in Europe and the United States of America. In recent years, Martial Solal has continued to perform and record with his trio.

He is a member of the successful hip hop group IAM... together with Akhenaton, Shurik'n, Khéops, Imhotep, and Kephren. He has also worked as a solo artist and an actor. Freeman lives in Marseille, but says that he is above all an Internationalist. Brahimi was born in Algiers, Algeria on 9 May 1972, and has lived most of his life in the district of Belsunce, in Marseille. At first, when IAM was formed in 1988, Brahimi worked with them as a breakdancer under the alias Abdelmalek Sultan, but he soon started rapping and appearing on the group's albums. In 1999, he published his first solo album, L'palais de justice. Freeman also appeared as an actor in Comme un aimant, a 2000 film by fellow IAM member Akhenaton and Kamel Saleh.

Polaire was the stage name used by French singer and actress Émilie Marie Bouchaud . Born at Agha, Algiers, Algeria, according to her memoirs... she was one of eleven children of whom only four - Emilie, her two brothers Edmond and Marcel, and a sister, Lucile - survived infancy. Their father died of typhoid fever when Emilie was five and their mother, unable to support them alone, placed them with their grandmother in Algiers. Marcel died shortly after. Her mother having begun a relationship with a man named Emmanuel Borgia , the family moved to Paris in 1889, where her mother found work. She also tried to find employment for her daughter but eventually, after Lucile had died, Emilie was sent back to her grandmother in Algiers. She did not settle, and in September 1890 ran away to rejoin her mother in France; but afraid of meeting up with her mother's partner, Borgia, she first approached her brother Edmond who had gained some fame as a café-concert singer under the name of Dufleuve. With his help she auditioned successfully and won her first job as a café singer aged about 17.

Tony Gatlif is a French film director of Romani ethnicity who also works as a screenwriter, composer, actor, and producer. Tony Gatlif was born on... 10 September 1948 in Algiers. Like many others, he left Algeria in the early 1960s. In elementary school he discovered the cinema. A teacher bought a 16mm projector and showed a movie every week, which served as the basis for a passion in film. “ [I] have seen the films of Vigo, Renoir, from John Ford and Chaplin’s … That is my cinema education.” as he arrives without anything in France, he goes to the chaotic way of street children who juvenile delinquency and educational institutions. By day, he sneaked into the cinema halls of the Grands Boulevards, in order to be able to sleep in warm places. One evening in 1966, he was courageous enough to seek out his idol, Michel Simon after a theatrical performance in his dressing room. The actor wrote Gatlif a recommendation that helped him attend an acting course in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Five years later, Gatlif acted in an Edward Bond stage play near another beginner - Gérard Depardieu.

Thelma Schoonmaker is an American film editor who has worked with director Martin Scorsese for over forty years. She has edited all of Scorsese's... films since Raging Bull. Schoonmaker has received seven Academy Award nominations for best editing, and has won three times . Schoonmaker was married to director Michael Powell from 19 May 1984 until his death in 1990. Since his death, Schoonmaker has been dedicated to preserving the films and honoring the legacy of her husband, who directed many classic films, including The Red Shoes. She was introduced to Michael Powell by Martin Scorsese and London based film producer Frixos Constantine. Schoonmaker's father Bertram was employed as a clerical worker by the Standard Oil Company and worked abroad. She was born in Algiers, Algeria to American expatriates and raised in various countries, including on the Dutch-Caribbean island of Aruba. Schoonmaker did not live in the United States until she was a teenager in 1955, and was initially alienated and dumbfounded by American culture.
