John Carroll O'Connor best known as Carroll O'Connor, was an American actor, producer and director whose television career spanned four decades. Known at first for playing the role of Major General Colt in the 1970 movie Kelly's Heroes, he later found fame as the bigoted working man Archie Bunker,... the main character in the 1970s CBS television sitcoms All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place . O'Connor later starred in the NBC/CBS television crime drama In the Heat of the Night from 1988 to 1995, where he played the role of southern Police Chief William Gillespie. At the end of his career in the late 1990s, he played the father of Jamie Stemple Buchman on Mad About You. In 1996, Carroll O'Connor was ranked #38 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time. O'Connor, an Irish American, was the eldest of three sons born in Manhattan, New York, to Elise Patricia and Edward Joseph O'Connor, who was a New York City lawyer. Both of his brothers were doctors: Hugh, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1961, and Robert, a psychiatrist in New York City.

Jean Stapleton is an American character actress of stage, television and film. She is best known for her portrayal of Edith Bunker, the long-suffering, yet devoted wife of Archie Bunker and mother of Gloria Stivic , on the 1970s situation comedy All in the Family. Stapleton was also seen... occasionally on the All in the Family follow-up series, Archie Bunker's Place, but, tired of the role, asked to be written out after the first season. Born in New York, New York, the daughter of Joseph E. Murray and Marie Stapleton Murray , she attended Hunter College. She began her career in 1941 in summer stock, aged 18, and made her New York debut in American Gothic, an Off-Broadway play. She was featured on Broadway in several hit musicals, such as Damn Yankees, Funny Girl, Bells Are Ringing, and Juno. She guest starred in many television series, including the role of Rosa Criley in the 1963 episode "The Bride Wore Pink" on NBC's medical drama about psychiatry, The Eleventh Hour.

Sally Ann Struthers is an American actress and spokeswoman, best-known for her roles as Gloria Stivic on All in the Family, for which she won two Emmy awards, and as Babette on Gilmore Girls. Struthers was born in Portland, Oregon, and attended Grant High School. She is the daughter of Margaret... Caroline and Robert Alden Struthers, who was a surgeon. Her maternal grandparents were Norwegian immigrants. Struthers married Dr. William C. Rader, a psychiatrist, on December 18, 1977. Now divorced , they had one child together, Samantha Struthers Rader. In Five Easy Pieces she was in a nude sex scene with Jack Nicholson, but achieved fame as Gloria Stivic on the 1970s sitcom, All in the Family. Producer Norman Lear found the actress dancing on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, a counterculture variety show whose writing staff included Rob Reiner. According to a WPTT-AM radio interview with Doug Hoerth in 2003, Struthers thought that Reiner's then-fiancée and later wife, Penny Marshall, would get the role of Gloria, as Marshall resembled Jean Stapleton, who played Edith Bunker.

Robert "Rob" Reiner is an American actor, director, producer, writer, and political activist. As an actor, Reiner first came to national prominence as Michael "Meathead" Stivic, son-in-law of Archie and Edith Bunker's , on All in the Family. That role earned him two Emmy Awards during the 1970s.... As a director, Reiner was recognized by the Directors Guild of America with nominations for Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men. He also directed Misery. He studied at the UCLA Film School. Reiner was born to a Jewish family in The Bronx, New York, and is the son of Estelle Reiner , an actress, and Carl Reiner, a comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director. As a child, Reiner lived in New Rochelle, New York, where his family lived at 48 Bonnie Meadow Road. This is similar to 148 Bonnie Meadow Road, the fictional address of the Petries on The Dick Van Dyke Show, the 1960s CBS sitcom created by his father. Also, his latest film Flipped takes place at the corner of Bonnie Meadow Lane and Renfrew Street.
