Anchee Min

Anchee Min is a Chinese-American painter, photographer, musician, and author who lives in San Francisco and Shanghai. Min has published a memoir, Red Azalea, and six historical novels. Her fiction emphasizes strong female characters, such as Jiang Qing, the wife of Chairman Mao Zedong, and Empress Dowager Cixi, the last ruling empress of China. Born in Shanghai on January 14, 1957, Min was sent to a labor camp at age 17, where she was discovered by talent scouts.
