The Michigan Theater is a movie palace in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States of America. It shows independent films, stage productions and... musical concerts. Designed by Detroit-based architect Maurice Finkel and built in 1928, the theater seats 1700 and features the theater's original 1927 Barton Theatre Pipe Organ, orchestra pit, stage, and elaborate architectural details. During a renovation in 1956, many of the original ornate designs were destroyed. After a period of low attendance, the theater was threatened with demolition in 1978, but members of the community and local organists helped raise funds to save and renovate the theater, returning it to its original design. A second screen with a state-of-the-art sound system, seating for 200 and the ability to project films digitally was added in 1999. The Barton Opus 245 theatre pipe organ was built for the Michigan Theater and installed in November 1927 shortly before the theater was opened. It is one of the few remaining organs which exists in its original location. It has three manuals , thirteen separate ranks of pipes and the console is situated on a functioning Barton four-poster lift.

The Ann and Robert H. Lurie Tower, located on North Campus at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and housing a grand carillon -- one of only 23... in the world, but one of two on the Michigan campus -- was built in 1996 as a memorial for Michigan alumnus Robert H. Lurie. The Lurie Tower was designed by Michigan alumnus Charles Moore and was dedicated in October 1996. A gift of the "Ann and Robert H. Lurie Family Foundation," it has 60 bells. Ann Lurie of Chicago donated $12 million in memory of her husband, Robert H. Lurie , to help fund the construction of North Campus buildings, including a bell tower. Completed in late 1995, the 167-foot tall bell tower is a significant landmark on the evolving North Campus. The bells of this grand carillon, which is lighter in weight than the Burton Tower's 55-bell carillon, are cast in bronze, in the customary proportion of 80 percent copper to 20 percent tin, at the Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry in Asten, Netherlands. The North Campus bourdon bell weighs in at six tons.

The Ann Arbor Ice Cube is a 1,000-seat multi-purpose arena located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The ice arena is also the home to the USA Hockey National... Team Development Program competing in the Tier I Jr. Hockey United States Hockey League. The Ice Cube is also home to the Eastern Michigan Eagles men's college ice hockey teams competing at the ACHA DI level in the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League. The arena is also home to several local high school ice hockey teams, and is used by local figure skating clubs, youth, and adult rec. ice hockey leagues, as well as public skating. Robert Clark "Bob" Seger is an American rock and roll singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist. As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he... performed and recorded as Bob Seger and the Last Heard and Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the "System" from his recordings, and he continued to strive for broader success with other various bands. In 1973, he put together The Silver Bullet Band, an evolving group of Detroit-area musicians, with whom he became most successful. In 1976, he achieved a national breakout with the album Night Moves. On his studio albums, he also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, appearing on several of Seger's best selling singles and albums. A roots rocker with a classic raspy, shouting voice, Seger wrote and recorded songs that dealt with blue-collar themes and was an exemplar of heartland rock. Seger has recorded many hits, including "Night Moves", "Turn the Page", "We've Got Tonight", "Against the Wind", and "Like a Rock", and also co-wrote the Eagles' number-one hit "Heartache Tonight".

Andrew Fetterly Wilkes Krier , better known by his stagename Andrew W.K., is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, entertainer,... motivational speaker and music producer. He is the host of the television series Destroy Build Destroy. Andrew Wilkes-Krier was born in Stanford, California, and grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At age 4, he began learning classical piano at The University of Michigan School of Music. He attended the private college preparatory Greenhills School for middle school before attending the alternative Community High School from 1993–1997, where he studied jazz keyboard. His father is Professor James E. Krier, a well-known legal scholar at the University of Michigan Law School and co-author of the widely used Dukeminier & Krier Property casebook. In 1993, when he was 14, Andrew joined the band Slam, later to be called Reverse Polarity. His first public recording, "Mr. Surprise", came out on a compilation released by the Westside Audio Laboratories label out of Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Jason Stollsteimer was the vocalist and guitarist for the American indie rock band The Von Bondies, which disbanded in 2011. Stollsteimer also was... the main songwriter and producer of the Von Bondies. He released three studio albums with The Von Bondies and currently is working on his first full length album with The Hounds Below. His debut album, Lack of Communication, was released in 2001 on Sympathy for the Record Industry. Jason toured the states with the first incarnation of The Von Bondies featuring long time friend Carrie Smith on the bass, Don Blum on drums and Marcie Bolen on Guitar. Over ten U.S. tours were done in order to help promote the record. The group shared the stage with The Cramps, on their 8th US tour. Jason and The Von Bondies also played several shows in the U.K. and Europe and a live performance on the Later with Jools Holland in London. In 2003 the Von Bondies released a live record that consisted mostly of recording from live BBC recordings from the John Peel.

Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler, Jr. was an American football player, coach, and athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at... Miami University from 1963 to 1968 and at the University of Michigan from 1969 to 1989, compiling a career record of 234–65–8. Only Joe Paterno and Tom Osborne have recorded 200 victories in fewer games as a coach in major college football. In his 21 seasons as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Schembechler's teams amassed a record of 194–48–5 and won or shared 13 Big Ten Conference titles. Though his Michigan teams never won a national championship, in all but one season they finished ranked, and 16 times they placed in the final top ten of both major polls. Schembechler played college football as a tackle at Miami University, where in 1949 and 1950 he was coached by Woody Hayes, for whom he served as an assistant coach at Ohio State University in 1952 and from 1958 to 1962. In his first ten years at Michigan, Schembechler's teams squared off in a fierce rivalry against Hayes's Buckeyes squads.

Grace Lee Whitney, also known as Ruth Whitney and Lee Whitney is an American actress and entertainer. She is best known for playing the role of... Janice Rand on the Star Trek television series and subsequent films. Whitney was born as Mary Ann Chase in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was adopted by the Whitney family who named her Grace Elaine Whitney. After she moved out, she began to call herself Lee Whitney, and eventually, she became known as Grace Lee Whitney. Whitney started her entertainment career as a "girl singer" on Detroit's WJR radio at the age of fourteen. In her late teens, she moved to Chicago and started to open in nightclubs for such luminaries as Billie Holiday and Buddy Rich, and toured with the Spike Jones and Fred Waring Bands. Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry cast Whitney in the role of Yeoman Janice Rand, the personal assistant to Captain James T. Kirk, in 1966. Whitney said: "I was on diet pills trying to stay thin – and I was very thin. They wanted you to fit into the uniforms and I couldn't quite so I went on amphetamines." Whitney appeared in eight of the first thirteen episodes; then was released from contract.

Ronald Frank Asheton was an American guitarist and co-songwriter with Iggy Pop for the rock band The Stooges. Asheton is ranked as number 29 on... Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Asheton was born in Washington D.C. He already had five years of practice on the accordion behind him when he began playing bass guitar at age 10. Asheton was lead guitarist on the Stooges' first two albums, and later appeared as bassist for their third, Raw Power, when he was replaced in both instrument and songwriting prominence by The Stooges' new guitar player, James Williamson. When the Stooges reformed, however, he once again appeared as the band's guitarist. Apart from The Stooges, Asheton also played in the bands The New Order , Destroy All Monsters, Dark Carnival, New Race and The Empty Set. More recently he played with The Wylde Ratttz, a band composed of some of punk and alt-rock's most renowned and respected musicians. The band included Mike Watt of the Minutemen, J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, and Mark Arm of Mudhoney. It contributed a cover version of the Stooges song "T.V.

David Samuel Goyer is an American screenwriter, film director, novelist, and comic book writer. Goyer was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He... attended Hebrew school and has described himself as "half Jewish". Goyer is an alumnus of Huron High School and the University of Southern California, graduating from the School of Cinema-Television in 1988. Goyer was a student of screenwriter Nelson Gidding at USC and frequently returned to Gidding's class as a guest speaker. He graduated in 1988 and sold his first screenplay for Death Warrant in 1989. With his first paycheck, he bought a new Isuzu Trooper, which was stolen the very first night he drove it home. Goyer has written several screenplays based on numerous comic book series, among them Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Batman Begins, The Flash, and Blade. Goyer wrote a title based around the Justice Society of America for DC Comics titled JSA, which debuted in August 1999. For the first five issues, he collaborated with James Robinson and, until his departure following issue 51, with Geoff Johns, who would take over as solo writer.

Lowell Green is a Canadian radio personality. He hosts The Lowell Green Show, a conservative morning talk show on Ottawa radio station CFRA, and has... also syndicated programming to several other Canadian radio stations. Green was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States, to Canadian parents, and immigrated to Canada. Green graduated from Macdonald Agricultural College of McGill University near Montreal in 1956. He started his radio career in Brantford, Ontario, subsequently moving to stations in Sudbury and Montreal. In Montreal, Green won awards for his coverage of the Springhill mining disaster in Nova Scotia. Green arrived at CFRA in 1960 as a news and farm reporter. In 1966, he began hosting Greenline, and eventually became the longest-running open line talk show host in North America. He retired briefly from radio in the 1980s, but returned in 1990. He attempted to win the Liberal party nomination for the Pontiac riding in the 1968 federal election but lost this bid to Thomas Lefebvre. On 13 December 1984, Green ran for the Ontario Liberal Party in a provincial by-election in Ottawa Centre.

Jeff Young is an American guitarist. He graduated from Musicians Institute in 1985, and is best known for his time with the thrash metal band... Megadeth, appearing on the 1988 album So Far, So Good So What!. In addition to his subsequent music projects, he served as an author in Guitar for the Practicing Musician. Young was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1980, he graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, and moved to Hollywood to attend Musicians Institute/GIT in 1984. He graduated from the Institute in 1985 and began his career as a guitar teacher. Young is the lead guitarist on Megadeth's platinum selling, So Far, So Good... So What! . Megadeth's transient guitarist, Jay Reynolds , had commissioned Young to play all of his solos on the new album, transcribe the previous Megadeth releases and teach him everything in time for the pending tours. However, after witnessing Young decipher previous guitarist Chris Poland's solos from Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? note-for-note in less than 30 minutes, frontman Dave Mustaine decided to cut out the middleman and enlist Young into the fold.

Martha Vickers was an American television and film actress. Born Martha MacVicar in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she began her career as a model and cover... girl. Her first film role was a small uncredited part in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man in 1941. She played minor roles in several films during the early 1940s, and by the end of the decade she had progressed to featured supporting roles, including the role of Carmen Sternwood, the nymphomaniac younger sister of Lauren Bacall's character in The Big Sleep . During the 1950s, Vickers' film career stalled, however she continued to act in television until her final performance in 1960. Vickers was married three times; to A. C. Lyles , Mickey Rooney and actor Manuel Rojas . Each marriage ended in divorce. Vickers had one son with Mickey Rooney, and two daughters with Rojas. She died of esophageal cancer, aged 46, in California, and is buried in Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood, California.

Tracie Savage is an American actress and journalist. She has starred in movies and on television. Savage's television appearances include the role... of Christy Kennedy on the NBC TV series Little House on the Prairie from 1974–1975. She had originally auditioned for the role of Laura Ingalls. She also made guest appearances on television shows including Love, American Style, Marcus Welby, M.D., Happy Days, and Here's Boomer. Her film roles include the character "Debbie" in the 1982 horror movie Friday the 13th Part III. After filming the movie Savage retired from acting to pursue journalism. Savage was a reporter/anchor at WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio from 1986–1991. Beginning in March 1994, she was a reporter/anchor at NBC4 in Los Angeles, California for seven years. Since September 2001, she has been the afternoon drive anchor for KFWB, an all-news radio station in Los Angeles. Savage has covered the Heidi Fleiss and O. J. Simpson civil trials. During the O. J. Simpson trial, Savage was called to the witness stand to reveal her confidential sources, and was threatened with jail time by Judge Ito.

Nicole Forester is an American actress. She is best known for her work as "Cassie Winslow" on Guiding Light. She currently recurs as "Maggie Zajac"... on the Starz series Boss. Forester was born Nicole Theresa Schmidt in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She began dance training at the age of five and began working locally in professional musical theatre at the age of twelve. She majored in drama at the Creative and Performing Arts High School in Livonia, Michigan and majored in Musical Theatre Performance at Western Michigan University before moving to Los Angeles at 19. She graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1993, when she took Forester, her grandmother's maiden name, as her professional name. Her early work in Los Angeles included roles in the television series Two and a Half Men, Monk, Will & Grace, The Single Guy, Beverly Hills 90210, and Mister Sterling, among others. Forester guest starred in two of the Star Trek spin-offs, playing a dabo girl in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Distant Voices", and Nora in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Horizon".
