Maxwell M. "Max" Scherzer is an American professional baseball pitcher with the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball. He currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona. After playing for Parkway Central High School in Chesterfield, Missouri, Scherzer was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 43rd... round in the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft but did not sign and instead attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He was then drafted again in 2006 by the Arizona Diamondbacks, this time in the 1st round as the 11th overall pick. On January 9, 2012 it was announced that Scherzer would be one of six new inductees to the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame. While at Mizzou he was Big 12 Pitcher of the Year in 2005. He was Mizzou's first-ever 1st round MLB pick. He began playing in the Diamondbacks organization in 2007 with the Single-A Visalia Oaks. He was promoted to Double-A Mobile BayBears after three impressive starts for the Oaks. In 2007, Scherzer also played for the Fort Worth Cats, an independent baseball team.

Justin Irvin Upton is a National Major League Baseball right fielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was selected first overall by the Diamondbacks in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft. Justin is considered a 5-tool player, acknowledged for having hitting prowess as well as solid fielding... capabilities. Justin and his brother B.J. Upton of the Tampa Bay Rays are the only brothers in Major League Baseball to ever be selected in the number one and two slots of a first round draft. He was previously an all-district shortstop for Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, and was awarded the AFLAC National High School Player of the Year Award. He is also the brother of Tampa Bay Rays center fielder B.J. Upton, who was taken at the number two pick in the 2002 draft. In his first professional season he played for Class-A South Bend Silver Hawks. He began 2007 with the Class-A Advanced Visalia Oaks, but was promoted to the AA Mobile BayBears after hitting .341 with 5 home runs for the Oaks in April. Scouts rave about Upton's talent, and he is often compared to Ken Griffey, Jr.

Stephen Oris Drew is a shortstop in Major League Baseball who plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is the younger brother of former Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew and former major leaguer Tim Drew. Drew went to Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. Following in the footsteps of his... brother, J.D., he played college baseball at Florida State University under head coach Mike Martin where he was Baseball America's Freshman of the Year, and ACC Rookie of the Year. Drew started out in Class A+ with the Lancaster JetHawks in 2006. Drew did very well with the JetHawks batting .389 and 10 home runs. Drew would later be pulled up to Double-A and play for the Tennessee Smokies. Drew would hit .218 and 4 home runs for the Smokies. He would later be pulled up to Triple-A and play for Tucson. Drew was selected to the 2006 All-Star Futures Game. On July 13, 2006, during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Craig Counsell injured his ribs, prompting the call-up of Drew from the D-Backs Triple-A affiliate, the Tucson Sidewinders. He made his major league debut on July 15 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jackson switched to the outfield shortly after being drafted. In his initial debut with Yakima of the shortseason Northwest League, he batted .319 with a league record 35 doubles. After his minor league debut, Jackson successfully climbed the minor league ladder. After fielding only .964 in the outfield in the minors, he was moved to first base, where his defensive struggles continued. He received his first taste of the majors in 2005 , where he batted .200/.303/.306 with 2 home runs in 85 at bats.

The Chicago Cubs are a professional baseball team located in Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's... National League. The Cubs are one of the two remaining charter members of the National League . The team is currently owned by a family trust of TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts, and was previously owned by the Chicago Tribune and, prior to the Tribune, by the Wrigley Company. The Cubs have not won the World Series in 103 years, a longer championship drought than that of any other major North American professional sports team, and are often referred to as "The Lovable Losers" because of this distinction. They are also known as "The North Siders" because Wrigley Field, their home park since 1916, is located in Chicago's north side Lake View community at 1060 West Addison Street. The Cubs have rivalries with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Chicago White Sox. The club played its first games in 1870 and was founded professionally in 1876.
