Alfred Joel Horford Reynoso is a Dominican professional basketball player who is a center and power forward for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association . Horford played college basketball for the University of Florida, and was the starting center on the Florida Gators teams that... won back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2006 and 2007. He also plays for the Dominican Republic national team. On December 24, 2011, he married singer and 2003 Miss Universe Amelia Vega. Horford was born in the city of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic, an island more famous for producing baseball players, produced Horford's father Tito Horford. Tito Horford was recruited by Marian Christian High School in Houston out of the Dominican Republic and attended Louisiana State University and the University of Miami. He was drafted in the second round of the 1988 NBA draft, and played three years in the NBA and several more overseas. Horford's mother Arelis Reynoso was a journalist. Horford grew up watching his father play and fell in love with the game.

Shelden DeMar Williams is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Brooklyn Nets. After being offered scholarships by the University of Washington, the University of Arizona, and the University of Kansas, Williams accepted a basketball scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a freshman, Williams was an integral part of the North Carolina 2004-2005 national championship basketball team. He averaged 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 22.2 minutes. As the team's sixth man, Williams provided the veteran Tar Heels squad with an explosive spark off the bench.

The father of Major League Baseball pitcher Brett Tomko, Jerry Tomko, submitted the winning entry to name the team the "Cavaliers" through a competition sponsored by the The Plain Dealer, supporters preferred it to "Jays", "Foresters" and "Presidents". Playing their home games at Cleveland Arena under the direction of head coach Bill Fitch, they compiled a league-worst 15–67 record. The team hoped to build around the number one 1971 draft pick Austin Carr who had set numerous scoring records at Notre Dame, but Carr severely injured his leg shortly into his pro career and never was able to realize his potential. The following seasons saw the Cavaliers gradually improve their on-court performance, thanks to season-by-season additions of talented players such as Bingo Smith, Jim Chones, Jim Cleamons and Dick Snyder.

The acquisition of Reggie Miller in 1987 marked the start of a long resurgence for the franchise that peaked with its appearance in the 2000 NBA Finals. However, since then the Pacers have not seen much playoff success, and even experienced a four-season playoff drought from 2007 to 2010 before making the playoffs again in 2011 and 2012.
