Auckland City is New Zealand's largest city. Founded by Lieutenant William Hobson in 1840, it has since grown to become New Zealand's major economic and social hub. The city itself is located in a unique setting, situated on a narrow isthmus between two harbours, the Manukau Harbour to the south west, and the Waitemata Harbour to the north east. The isthmis experiences a very mild and temperate climate due to this location.
