Axia College was a for-profit educational institution founded in March 2004. On June 13, 2011, the University of Phoenix merged Axia programs with the University of Phoenix Online programs, eliminating Axia as a separate college or division. Axia College was first established under Western International University . Due to the massive influx of students registering and the amount of potential students to register, the Apollo Group decided to move Axia College of WIU to the University of Phoenix. This transition took place over the April 1st - 2nd, 2006 weekend, with the first Axia of UOP... students starting on April 3, 2006. University of Phoenix is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Students attend online "classrooms" from their computer.The "classroom" consists of forums where assignments are posted for the instructor to grade, and class participation is based on discussions between students on specific topics dictated by the curriculum and posted in the main student accessible forum.
