Bard College

The Longy School of Music is a conservatory located near Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1915, it was one of the four... independent degree-granting music schools in the Boston region along with the New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, and Boston Conservatory. In June 2011, the school announced plans to officially merge with Bard College. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate programs, the Longy School of Music also serves as a community music school with preparatory programs for children and high-school age musicians, and classes for non-professional adult musicians. As of the 2010–2011 academic year, the conservatory had 225 students in its degree programs from 37 states and 21 countries, with a further 1000 students enrolled in its preparatory and continuing education classes. The Longy School of Music was founded in Boston in 1915 by Georges Longy, a French-born oboist and graduate of the Paris Conservatory who had joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1898. Upon his retirement in 1925, his daughter, Renée Longy-Miquelle, succeeded him as Director.

Walter Carl Becker is an American musician, songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the co-founder, guitarist, bassist and a co-writer... of Steely Dan. Becker was born to a Jewish family in Queens, New York, grew up in Westchester County and Forest Hills, Queens, and is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, class of 1967. After starting out on saxophone, he switched to guitar and received instruction in blues technique from neighbor Randy Wolfe who, under the pseudonym Randy California, played with Jimi Hendrix and founded the group, Spirit. He met his long-time musical partner, Donald Fagen, while attending Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Becker and Fagen formed and played in a number of groups, including The Leather Canary, which also included the now famous actor/comedian Chevy Chase on drums. At the time, Chase called the group "a bad jazz band." Becker and Fagen's youthful career also included a stint with Jay and the Americans under pseudonyms prior to relocating to California and forming Steely Dan. The band released seven successful albums in its initial ten-year career.

Ellen Parker is an American actress. Parker is a well regarded New York stage actress; among her credits was the original production of the Wendy... Wasserstein play The Heidi Chronicles, as well as Equus, David Hare's Plenty, and the play "Strangers". She also had a role in the film Kramer vs. Kramer. Parker's first television appearance was in the PBS adaptation of another one of Wasserstein's works, Uncommon Women and Others. Her first major television role was as Ethel Kennedy in the miniseries Kennedy in 1983. Among her other television credits are appearances on Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as well as The Education of Max Bickford and Ed. Parker is perhaps best known for her role as Maureen Reardon Bauer on Guiding Light, which she played from 1986 to 1993. She replaced Ellen Dolan in the role of Maureen in 1986, and played the role for seven years. During that time, the show's tentpole character, Bert Bauer, died , and the character of Maureen became the show's new matriarch.

William Endfield "Billy" Steinberg is an American songwriter. He has achieved most of his success as part of a song writing team, most notably with... Tom Kelly. He has also co-written several hit songs with Rick Nowels. Steinberg grew up in Palm Springs, California and worked with his father's table grape operation. He attended Cate School in California, and Bard College in New York. In his mid-20s he formed the group Billy Thermal which was eventually signed to Richard Perry's Planet Records label. Their breakthrough occurred in 1980 when Linda Ronstadt heard their album and decided to record their song "How Do I Make You?" for her 1980 Mad Love album. The album hit the top three of the charts and went platinum. Ronstadt's version of their song reached the American top ten. In 1981, Steinberg wrote "Precious Time", the title track for Pat Benatar's Precious Time album; he also penned "I'm Gonna Follow You", which appeared on her second album Crimes of Passion the previous year. His band Billy Thermal included "I'm Gonna Follow You" as well as "How Do I Make You?" on their EP released by Planet Records in 1979.

Kenneth Milton Grimwood was an American author who was born in Dothan, Alabama. In his fantasy fiction Grimwood combined themes of life-affirmation... and hope with metaphysical concepts, themes found in his best-known novel, the highly popular Replay. He sometimes wrote under pseudonyms, including Alan Cochran. His sister, Teresa Panther-Yates, once described him as "a brilliant, beautiful human being who knew that the best of fiction has a message." On New Year's Day, 2006, she recalled their youth: Grimwood took an interest in EC Comics and radio journalism while growing up in Pensacola, Florida. He graduated from Indian Springs School in 1961 and then spent the summer in Paris while studying at the Sorbonne. He attended Emory College from 1961 to 1963. In the mid-1960s, he worked in news at WLAK in Lakeland, Florida. Heading north, he studied psychology at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where he contributed short fiction to Bard's student publication, Observer in 1969, graduating in 1970.
