Hindu Love Gods was an American pop/rock and blues band that was, in essence, an occasional side project of members of R.E.M., with Warren Zevon and... Bryan Cook. The band debuted with 3 scattered gigs in 1984. The group played mostly cover tunes, though a few unreleased originals also made it into the mix. The first gig took place on Valentine's Day, 1984, and featured Bryan Cook , and R.E.M. members Bill Berry Peter Buck and Mike Mills . The follow-up gig took place two weeks later; added to the line-up was R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe on vocals and drums, and Warren Zevon on vocals. Zevon performed his hit "Werewolves Of London", as well several other songs that were, at that point, unrecorded The final 1984 gig took place in June, and featured the Cook/Berry/Buck/Mills line-up. The group entered the studio as a quintet that summer, with the line-up of Berry/Buck/Cook/Mills/Zevon. They recorded two songs for release as a single, which were eventually released in 1986.

Love Tractor was a band from Athens, Georgia founded in spring 1980 by guitarists Mark Cline and Mike Richmond. Like The B-52's, Pylon and R.E.M.,... Love Tractor was considered by critics to be one of the founders of the Athens, Georgia alternative rock scene. Love Tractor toured extensively and recorded five critically acclaimed albums during the 1980s—and was particularly known for their instrumental rock. After a return to the public eye in the late '90s, Love Tractor released 2001's The Sky At Night. The group disbanded in 2002. The band was formed in the spring of 1980 by guitarists Mark Cline and Mike Richmond. The band played their first few gigs with no bassist and a drum machine, but bassist/multi-instrumentalist/artist Armistead Wellford, drummers Kit Schwartz and Bill Berry , and studio keyboard player Alfredo Villar were soon added. Love Tractor originally performed only instrumental material, but vocals from Richmond were added starting with their second album. The band signed to DB Records, their first release being a self-titled album, produced by Bruce Baxter and Alfredo Villar.
