Biloxi

Beauvoir plantation is notable as the historic post-war home of the former Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Its construction was begun in 1848... at Biloxi, Mississippi. It was purchased in 1873 by the planter Samuel Dorsey and his wife Sarah Dorsey. After her husband's death in 1875, the widow Sarah Ellis Dorsey learned of Jefferson Davis' difficulties. She invited him to the plantation and offered him a cottage near the main house, where he could live and work at his memoirs. He ended up living there the rest of his life. The house and plantation have been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Ill with cancer, in 1878 Sarah Ellis Dorsey remade her will, bequeathing Beauvoir to Jefferson Davis and his surviving daughter, Varina Anne Davis, known as "Winnie". His wife Varina Howell Davis was also living there, and the three Davises lived there until Jefferson Davis' death in 1889. Varina Davis and her daughter moved to New York in 1891. After the death of Winnie in 1898, Varina Howell Davis inherited the plantation.

Tullis-Toledano Manor, also known as, the Toledano-Philbrick-Tullis House, was a red clay brick mansion on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi. It... was considered an example of Greek Revival architecture. The mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Christoval Toledano, a New Orleanian of Spanish descent built the house in 1856 for his second wife, Matilde Pradat. It was purchased in 1939 as a summer home by Garner H. Tullis of New Orleans who was President of the New Orleans Cotton Exchange. The home sustained damage from Hurricane Camille in 1969 but was subsequently restored. It was sold in 1975 by the Tullis family to the city of Biloxi and became a popular museum and local attraction. It was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. The Grand Casino barge that was moored in the Gulf near the home was washed ashore by the hurricane, lifted up, and crashed down on top of the Tullis Manor. Nothing was left of the home except rubble.

The Mississippi Coast Coliseum is a 11,500 reserved seating, 15,000 festival seating, multi-purpose arena in Biloxi, Mississippi. It was built in... 1977. It hosted WCW Beach Blast 1993 and the Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball tournament in 1992 and 1993. The Metro Conference men's basketball tournaments were contested here in 1990 and 1994. The first concert ever held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum was Ruby Starr and Blackfoot. The Mississippi Coast Coliseum also holds one of the largest Crawfish Festivals in America. This event is held every year, over two weekends in April. It was previously home to the Mississippi Sea Wolves ice hockey team. Due to damages to the arena by heavy flooding and winds, from Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, the Mississippi Sea Wolves cancelled their 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. Repairs are now virtually complete, and the Sea Wolves returned on the ice on October 27, 2007. On March 30, 2009, the Sea Wolves announced they had suspended operations once again.

Fred Wallace Haise, Jr. is an American engineer and former NASA astronaut. He is one of only 24 humans to have flown to the Moon. Having flown on... Apollo 13, Haise was to be the sixth human to walk on the Moon, but the mission did not land due to a failure aboard the spacecraft. Haise was born in Biloxi, Mississippi. He attended Biloxi High School and Perkinston Junior College . He completed naval aviator training in 1954 and served as a United States Marine Corps fighter pilot. He graduated with honors in aeronautical engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1959. He completed post-graduate courses at the USAF Aerospace Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base in 1964 and the Harvard Business School PMD Program in 1972. His NASA career began as an aeronautical research pilot at Lewis Research Center in 1959. Further assignments were held as a research pilot at the NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center in 1963 and as an astronaut at the Johnson Space Center in 1966. Haise was the first of the 1966 group to be assigned to Apollo duties – ahead of some group 3 members.

Matthew Barlow is an American heavy metal singer and police officer. He is the former lead singer for Iced Earth. He is Jon Schaffer's... brother-in-law. Barlow joined Iced Earth after the Night of the Stormrider tour with Blind Guardian in Europe, as a replacement for John Greely. The first album Barlow can be heard on is Burnt Offerings . Barlow left the band in 2003, much to the chagrin of many fans. His reason for leaving was due to personal beliefs related to the September 11 terrorist attacks. He took a look at his life and realized that he wanted to contribute to the "real world" instead of living the illusion of a "rock star." He approached Jon Schaffer with this in late 2002, but Schaffer, known for his persuasive personality, convinced Barlow to stay with the band. When the band recorded The Glorious Burden, Schaffer decided that Barlow's vocals were not what he desired them to be; he believed they lacked the passion and quality that Barlow was known for. He decided to let Barlow go after all and hired Tim Owens, former lead singer of Judas Priest.

He was awarded one gold album certification from the RIAA, and was nominated for a Grammy Award and the Academy of Country Music Music Pioneer Award. LeDoux was born in Biloxi, Mississippi. His father was in the US Air Force and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base at the time of his birth. The family moved often when he was a child, due to his father's air force career. He learned to ride horses while visiting his grandparents on their Michigan farm. At age 13, LeDoux participated in his first rodeo, riding in Denison, Texas, and before long was winning junior rodeo competitions. LeDoux continued to compete in rodeo events and played football through his high school years, with rodeos keeping most of his attention. When his family moved to Cheyenne, he attended Cheyenne Central High School.

Alba began his acting career at the age of 18 when he got cast as Krit, in the first season finale of the cyberpunk science fiction television series Dark Angel, of which his sister Jessica Alba was the star. Charles Patrick "Chuck" Pfarrer, III is an American novelist, screenwriter, and former U.S. Navy SEAL from Biloxi, Mississippi. Pfarrer is the son... of Charles Patrick Pfarrer, Jr., a career naval officer, and Joan Marie Pfarrer, a registered nurse. Pfarrer is a graduate of the Staunton Military Academy, and studied Clinical Psychology at California State University at Northridge and the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. Pfarrer went through Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training in 1981 and spent 8 years as a Navy SEAL. He served as a military advisor in Central America, trained NATO forces in Europe and the Mediterranean, undertook duties in the Middle East, notably in Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War. As executive officer of the SEAL Team assigned to the Multi-National Peacekeeping Force, he witnessed the 1983 Marine barracks bombing in Beirut. Pfarrer was one of the SEAL Team leaders responsible for the apprehension of Abu Abbas and the hijackers of the cruise ship Achille Lauro.
