Game Overview

The Bloody Roar series screams into the Nintendo universe with Bloody Roar: Primal Fury, exclusively available on Nintendo GameCube. Bloody Roar is a tournament fighting game featuring 16 combatants who can instantly morph into hyper-beast life forms. The result? Visually stunning matches with satisfyingly brutal special moves. Despite its name, though, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury is hemoglobin-free. Flashing light effects replace blood and gore, which only slightly lessens the impact of bone-breaking grab moves and vicious combos. As a result, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury has earn a "T" (Teen) rating by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

The Bottom Line

Primal Fury, called Bloody Roar Extreme in Japan, is a traditional 3D polygonal fighter that boasts a brawling style similar to that of Fighting Vipers. The twist is that each of the game's 16 characters can transform from human to beast shape and take on new fighting abilities. Bloody Roar: Primal Fury comes as an updated port to the PlayStation 2 released Bloody Roar 3, and is differentiated by enhanced, more detailed graphics, more rounded character models and a better framerate, among other additions. Developed by Eighting, the game is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB.

It certainly looks great, and it can be fun.

A graphically superb experience with solid, although not as detailed fighting controls.

It's a lot of fun to play -- tight control mixed with a fair amount of moves and combos (but not enough), and then the strategic element of beast transformations, proves very addictive.
