Sex Gang Children are a post-punk or positive punk group that formed in the early 1980s in England. Although the original group only released one... official studio album, their singles and various other tracks have been packaged into numerous collections, and they remain one of the more well-known bands of the early Batcave scene and have reformed for new albums and touring at various times since the early 1990s. The original line-up was Andi Sex Gang , Dave Roberts , Terry McLeay , and Rob Stroud . They were a very dramatic band, relying on heavy bass, tribal drumming, sudden mood shifts, a woozy cabaret ready sound that influenced the rise of the later dark cabaret scene, and yet another in a long line of goth singers with an odd, highly dramatic voice. The band's first release was a cassette-only live album, Naked, in 1982. The Beasts EP, their first vinyl release, followed the same year after they signed to the Illuminated label.

Culture Club are a British pop band who were part of the 1980s New Romantic movement. The original band comprised Boy George , Mikey Craig , Roy Hay ... and Jon Moss . Their second album, Colour by Numbers, has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, and they had several international hits with songs such as "Church of the Poison Mind", "Karma Chameleon" and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me". Boy George's androgynous style of dressing caught the attention of the public and the media. Culture Club's music combines British New Wave and American soul with Jamaican reggae and also other styles such as calypso, salsa or country. From the time of the band's first album release in 1981 to its dissolution in 1986, Culture Club had amassed hits in several countries around the world, including ten Top 40 hits in the US, most of which went Top 10. They went on to have subsequent hits in the UK during a reunion period of 1998–2002, where they scored a No. 4 single and a No. 25 single.

Jesus Loves You were a British band, founded by the singer Boy George. The music of the band is a mixture of electronic dance music, Indian classical... music and western pop music. Their lyrics are about love, spirituality and the equality of all human beings. After Boy George left the band Culture Club, he tried to start a solo career. He succeeded with the singles taken from his debut album Sold in 1987. For the next two albums he wanted to break out in a new direction, by dabbling in electronic dance music. The singles taken from the two albums didn't attain much commercial success, but on the other hand they were often played at clubs. In order to achieve commercial success again, Boy George founded the band "Jesus Loves You" together with other musicians. He thought the band would be more successful if nobody knew that he was the leader of the band. Boy George adopted the pseudonym "Angela Dust". "After the Love", the first song by Jesus Loves You that was released as a single, is about the separation from his ex-bandmate Jon Moss. Ironically, he wrote the song together with Moss. The first three singles by Jesus Loves You only had modest success in the UK singles chart.

Rock music is a genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has... its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources. Typically, rock is song-based music with a 4/4 beat utilizing a verse-chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse and common musical characteristics are difficult to define. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.

Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s. While sometimes used in a broader sense to refer to most types of Jamaican... music, the term reggae more properly denotes a particular music style that originated following on the development of ska and rocksteady. Reggae is most easily recognized by the rhythmic accents on the off-beat, usually played by guitar or piano , known as the skank. This pattern accents the second and fourth beat in each bar and combines with the drums emphasis on beat three to create a unique feel and sense of phrasing in contrast to most other popular genres focus on beat one, the "downbeat". The tempo of reggae is usually felt as slower than the popular Jamaican forms, ska and rocksteady, which preceded it. It is this slower tempo, the guitar/piano offbeats, the emphasis on the third beat, and the use of syncopated, melodic bass lines that differentiates reggae from other music, although other musical styles have incorporated some of these innovations separately.
