Steaua Stadium , informally also known as Ghencea, is a football stadium in Bucharest, Romania, home of Ministry of National Defence of Romania. Also... called Ghencea Stadium, it was inaugurated on 9 April 1974 when Steaua played a friendly game against OFK Belgrade, 2–2. Tătaru was the first player to score on the new stadium. First 11 of Steaua in that match was: Coman - Sătmăreanu, Sameș, Smărăndache, Cristache - Dumitru, Iovănescu - Pantea, Iordănescu, Năstase, Ion. Reserves: Haidu, Ionescu, Dumitru, Tătaru and Răducanu. At the time it was one of the first football-only stadiums ever built in Romania, as there are no athletic facilities, and the stands are very close to the pitch. The original capacity was 30,000 on benches, but in 1991 when the plastic seats were installed, the capacity dropped to 28,365, along with 126 press seats, 440 seats in VIP boxes and 733 armchairs. The floodlighting system, with a density of 1400 lux, has been inaugurated in 1991.

Dinamo Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Bucharest, Romania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Dinamo... Bucureşti. The stadium was built in 1952. In 2001, floodlights were added, and in 2006 a major renovation of the stadium began, enlarging the VIP section, and raising the capacity of the Tribune 2 stand. However, due to lack of funding the renovation has still not been completed. There are now plans to build a new arena, but administrative problems make progress very slow-going. New seats and a new scoreboard were added. Many important matches were held here including Dinamo-Everton or Dinamo-Bayer Leverkusen.

Lia Manoliu Arena is a football stadium that will be built in Bucharest, Romania. It will be ready in 2010 and it will host the national team's... games and the Romanian Cup finals. The owners will pay €142,000,000 for the stadium, which will be able to hold 55,000 people but with a potential expansion of 63,000 people. In October 2005, it was decided to rebuild the old stadium completely; however, initially no funding was found, so some repairs proceeded in lieu of rebuilding. Later, funds became available and the rebuilding began in November 2007. It will be the first 5 Star venue in Romanian football and will also host European Competitions because of the lack of suitable stadiums in the country, as only two other stadiums can support UEFA Champions League matches. It will also bid for the 2011 UEFA Cup Final for its first major European final. This stadium is the first one built so it could support a possible bid for Euro 2020 which Romania & Bulgaria are prepared to host.

Nicoleta Alexandru , whose stage name is Nicola, is a Romanian singer, best known for representing her country at the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest.... Born in Bucharest, Nicola started her solo career in 1992 and has toured widely as well as making numerous television, radio and stage appearances. In 2003, she was awarded the Woman of the Year prize by Avantaje magazine, her song "Lângă mine" was awarded "The Song of the Year" prize by Bucureşti and Actualitati Radio stadions; she was awarded the Mamaia and Love Song Festival trophies for the same song. On 1 March 2003, after a huge response to her song "Don't Break My Heart" Nicola won the Romanian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest at Riga. In the international final she came in 10th. In 2003 she released her fourth LP, Best Of Nicola. Building on the recognition gained from the Eurovision Song Contest, the album sold more copies than expected for a Romanian artist and was certified platinum. That year she won "Best Female" at the TV K Lumea awards. In January 2005, she released "De mă vei chema" which went onto spawn two hit singles; "De mă vei chema" and "Honey".

He is one of the five players in history to win more than 100 ATP professional titles . He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1991. Năstase won seven Grand Slam titles: two in singles, three in men's doubles, and two in mixed doubles. He also won four Masters Grand Prix year end championship titles and seven Championship Series titles the precursors to the current Masters 1000. In 2005, Tennis magazine ranked him as the 28th-best player of the preceding forty years. He is the second male player to win a Grand Slam without dropping a set and the first one to achieve this feat at French Open . At the beginning of his career in 1966 Năstase travelled around the world competing with his good friend Ion Ţiriac. Together, they represented Romania in the Davis Cup competition, being three times runners up: in 1969, 1971 and 1972.

Dinu Lipatti was a Romanian classical pianist and composer whose career was cut short by his death from Hodgkin's disease at age 33. He was elected... posthumously to the Romanian Academy. Lipatti was born in Bucharest into a musical family: his father was a violinist who had studied with Pablo de Sarasate and Carl Flesch, his mother a pianist. For his baptism, which occurred not shortly after birth as is usual, but when he was old enough to play the piano, the violinist and composer George Enescu agreed to be his godfather. Lipatti played a minuet by Mozart at his own baptism. He studied at the Gheorghe Lazăr High School, while undergoing piano and composition studies with Mihail Jora for three years. He then attended the Bucharest Conservatoire, studying under Florica Musicescu, who also taught him privately. In June 1930, the best pupils at the Conservatoire gave a concert at the Bucharest Opera, and the 13-year old Lipatti received a huge ovation for his performance of the Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor.

John Houseman was a Romanian-born British-American actor and film producer who became known for his highly publicized collaboration with director... Orson Welles from their days in the Federal Theatre Project through to the production of Citizen Kane. He is perhaps best known for his role as Professor Charles Kingsfield in the 1973 film The Paper Chase, for which he won a best supporting actor Oscar. He reprised his role as Kingsfield in the subsequent TV series adaptation of The Paper Chase. Houseman was also known for his commercials for the brokerage firm Smith Barney. He had a distinctive Mid-Atlantic English accent, in common with many actors of his generation. Houseman was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1902, the son of May and Georges Haussmann, who ran a grain business. His mother was British, from a Christian family of Welsh and Irish descent. His father was an Alsatian-born Jew. He was educated in England at Clifton College, became a British citizen and worked in the grain trade in London before emigrating to the United States in 1925, where he took the stage name of John Houseman. English-speaking world, she is probably best known for the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. In Romania, she has been nationally known since her 1992 role as Nela in Balanţa, a film known in the United States as The Oak, set during the waning days of Communist Romania. Born in Bucharest, in a Jewish family, she graduated from the Film and Theatre Academy of Bucharest in 1985. She then played at Teatrul Tineretului in Piatra Neamţ until 1988, and at the Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat in Bucharest 1988-1990. From 1990–1998 she was a member of the company of the National Theatre in Bucharest, and since 1998 of Teatrul Bulandra, also in Bucharest; in addition, she continues to act at the Jewish State Theatre and other Bucharest theaters and elsewhere in Romania.

Clara Haskil was a Romanian classical pianist, renowned as an interpreter of the classical and early romantic repertoire. Haskil was particularly... noted for her performances and recordings of Mozart. Many considered her the foremost interpreter of Mozart in her time. She was also noted as a superb interpreter of Beethoven, Schumann, and Scarlatti. Haskil was born into a Sephardic Jewish family in Bucharest, Romania and studied in Vienna under Richard Robert and briefly with Ferruccio Busoni. She later moved to Paris, where she started studying with Gabriel Fauré's pupil Joseph Morpain, whom she always credited as one of her greatest influences. The same year she entered the Paris Conservatoire, officially to study with Alfred Cortot although most of her instruction came from Lazare Lévy and Mme Giraud-Letarse, and graduated at age 15 with a Premier Prix. She also graduated with a Premier Prix in violin. Upon graduating, Haskil began to tour Europe, though her career was cut short by one of the numerous physical ailments she suffered throughout her life.
