Commack is a census-designated place that roughly corresponds to the hamlet by the same name in the towns of Huntington and Smithtown in Suffolk County, New York, United States on Long Island. The CDP's population was 36,367 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.1 square miles , all land. The name "Commack" comes from the Secatogue native Americans who lived on the South Shore of Long Island between Copiague and Bayport. The Secatogue named their northern lands in the center of the island "Winnecomac", meaning "Pleasant lands."...
