The Denver Nuggets are a professional basketball team based in Denver, Colorado who play in the National Basketball Association . They were founded as the Denver Larks in 1967 as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association but changed their name to Rockets before the first season.... Eventually they became one of that league's more successful teams. After changing their name again in anticipation of a merger, they joined the NBA in 1976. They play home games at the Pepsi Center. In 1967, one of the ABA's charter franchises was awarded to a group in Kansas City, Missouri headed by Southern California businessman James Trindle. However, Trindle was unable to find a suitable arena in the Kansas City area. League commissioner George Mikan suggested moving the team to Denver. After agreeing to name Denver native and former NBA player Vince Boryla as general manager, Trindle moved his team to Denver as the Denver Larks, named after the Colorado state bird. The Trindle group was severely undercapitalized, leading Mikan to order the Larks to post a $100,000 performance bond or lose the franchise.

In 1977, the School of Accounting was established by the Florida Board of Regents as a separate school within the Warrington College of Business, and was endowed in 1985 by Frederick Fisher. Dr. John... Simmons was the founding Director of the Fisher School. The school first conferred degrees in Accounting in December 1978. The Fisher School of Accounting is often ranked in the top 10 accounting programs within public universities. The 2006 and 2005 rankings of U.S. News and World Report rank both the undergraduate and graduate programs #7 among public universities. Fisher School of Accounting graduates' pass rate on the Certified Public Accountant Exam has been traditionally twice as high as the national average. The Fisher School of Accounting has approximately 720 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Eighty-five percent of University of Florida students score above the national mean on standard entrance exams taken by college-bound students.

This region has always been known for excellent agricultural soils, a spectacular wildlife environment and an enjoyable climate. People were originally attracted from the tobacco belt in Virginia and the Carolina to the Highland Rim for land speculation and dark tobacco. The Highland Rim offered ideal climate and soil conditions for growing dark tobacco. This lucrative crop increased the value of the land which benefited land speculators in the area. Eventually these speculators moved on to attempt profits elsewhere. The farmers however, remained.
