Daniel Bernard "D. B." Sweeney is an American actor. Sweeney was born and raised in Shoreham by an educator father and a municipal government employee mother. He attended Shoreham-Wading River High School and both Tulane and New York University. Before completing his BFA at NYU in 1984, he was cast in the Broadway revival of The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. Sweeney guest starred on television series The Edge of Night and Spenser: For Hire before entering films, where he portrayed a gung-ho Vietnam enlistee in Francis Ford Coppola's Gardens of Stone . Sweeney is perhaps best remembered for his... portrayal of Shoeless Joe Jackson in Eight Men Out , The Cutting Edge or Dish Boggett in Lonesome Dove . Sweeney also starred in Memphis Belle , Blue Desert , Fire in the Sky , and Hardball . In addition to his film roles, he continues to work on television. In 1996, he starred in the Fox series Strange Luck in which he played an amnesiac freelance photographer with strange powers that resulted from being the sole survivor of an airplane disaster.
