Central Michigan University is a public research university located in Mount Pleasant in the U.S. state of Michigan. Established in 1892, Central Michigan University is one of the nation’s 100 largest public universities and the fourth largest in Michigan with more than 20,000 students on... its Mount Pleasant campus and another 7,000 enrolled online and at more than 60 locations worldwide. CMU offers 200 academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s, specialist and doctoral levels, including nationally recognized programs in entrepreneurship, journalism, music, audiology, teacher education, psychology and physician assistant. CMU has also established a College of Medicine, scheduled to open in 2013. CMU competes in the NCAA’s Division I Mid-American Conference in seven men’s and nine women’s sports. CMU has eight academic divisions: Academic work on campus is supported by the recently renovated Charles V. Park Library which holds one million books and can seat up to 2,655 patrons at a time. For many years CMU has offered an MBA program for selected employees of the Defense Contract Audit Agency.

Traverse City is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Grand Traverse County, although a small portion extends into Leelanau County. It is the largest city in the 21-county Northern Michigan region. The population was 14,674 at the 2010 census, with 143,372 in the Traverse... City micropolitan area. Despite its modest population, Traverse City functions as the major commercial nexus for a seven-county area totaling over 2,700 square miles and, along with cross-peninsula counterpart Alpena, is one of Northern Lower Michigan's two anchor cities. The Traverse City area is the largest producer of tart cherries in the United States. Near the time of cherry harvest, the city holds an annual week-long Cherry Festival in the first full week in July, attracting approximately 500,000 visitors annually. The surrounding countryside also produces grapes, and is one of the centers of wine production in the Midwest. Tourism, both summer and winter, is another key industry.
