Davenport

The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Freight House was built by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad in 1917 in Davenport,... Iowa. The building is rectangular in shape and built of brick. The eastern end is two stories and held the offices. The west end held the warehouse storage space in a single story. The freight house was built on the levee near the Mississippi River. The railroad built the freight house because of the increase in traffic through Davenport in the years leading up to World War I. The freight house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its association with the commercial development of Davenport, Iowa. The freight house was mostly recently used as a comedy club, sports bar, piano bar, and restaurant. As of Summer 2010 the freight house is vacant and under ownership by the City of Davenport. Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport, Iowa, United States, is the cathedral parish for the Catholic Diocese of Davenport. The cathedral is located on a... bluff overlooking the Mississippi River to the east of Downtown Davenport. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cathedral Complex. This designation includes the church building, rectory and the former convent. The cathedral is adjacent to the Cork Hill Historic District, also on NRHP. Its location on Cork Hill, a section of the city settled by Irish immigrants, gives the cathedral its nickname Cork Hill Cathedral. The parish traces its history back to 1856, when population growth in the city of Davenport led the Dubuque Diocese to decide to establish a new parish on top of the hill on the east side of Davenport. Antoine and Marguerite LeClaire donated the parcel of land and funds to build the church. Before this time parishioners attended St. Anthony's Church in downtown Davenport. On June 29, 1856 Bishop Mathias Loras of Dubuque laid the cornerstone for the church. St. Paul Lutheran Church is located in central, Davenport, Iowa, United States. It is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The... church's original property, which subsequently housed other Protestant congregations, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It has since been torn down. The present complex that was built in 1952 is a contributing property in the Vander Veer Park Historic District. The Lutheran Church was the last mainline Protestant congregation to organize in Davenport. Early attempts were made among the German immigrants, but they were met with only minimal success. In 1861 a German Lutheran minister was sent to Davenport. A year later he started organizing First German Evangelical Lutheran Zion Church and a building was erected in 1866. Theological disagreements erupted within the congregation and the pastor and a group of parishioners left to form Trinity German Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1869. They affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Zion languished until a new wave of German immigration came into the city in the 1870s. They continued German language services until World War I.

She was raised in Chicago, Illinois and Wisconsin. Boyle studied at and graduated from The Chicago Academy for the Arts. Boyle's first film role was a bit part in Ferris Bueller's Day Off , which earned her a SAG card, though her scenes were deleted from the final cut of the film. Files, playing Evelyn "Angel" Martin, the shifty friend and former cellmate of Jim Rockford . Margolin won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor – Drama Series in this role, in 1979 and 1980; he is one of only four actors to win this award twice for the same role. Margolin played Rabbi David Small in the 1976 movie, Lanigan's Rabbi, based on the series of mystery novels written by Harry Kemelman. Scheduling conflicts prevented him from continuing the role in the short-lived TV series of the same name that aired in 1977 as part of the "NBC Sunday Mystery Movie," where Small was played by Bruce Solomon. Margolin was earlier paired with James Garner in a 1971-72 TV Western series entitled Nichols, where he played a character somewhat similar to the Angel character he played in The Rockford Files. That show only lasted for one season.

John Getz is a stage-trained American actor. Getz, one of four children, was born in Davenport, Iowa, and grew up in the Mississippi River Valley.... He began acting while attending the University of Iowa, where he helped found the Center for New Performing Arts. He has a daughter, Hannah, from his marriage to playwright Grace McKeaney. Getz dropped out of college to attend the respected American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. While working in a winery, he helped found the Napa Valley Theater Company. His location in the grape-growing Napa Valley led to Getz' television debut as an Attendant in a made-for-television horror film. Sue Lyon was 14 years old when she was cast in the role of Dolores "Lolita" Haze, the sexually charged adolescent... and the object of an older man's obsessions in Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film, Lolita. Nathaniel Greene "Nat" Pendleton was an American Olympic wrestler and film actor. Pendleton was born in Davenport, Iowa to Adelaide E. and Nathaniel... G. Pendleton. He studied at Columbia University where he began his wrestling career. He was twice Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association champion in 1914 and 1915. Chosen to compete in the US wrestling team at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium, Pendleton lost only one match during the competition, and was awarded a silver medal. Returning to the US he became a professional wrestler, and with the celebrity status he had achieved, drifted into movies in the late 1920s. His early roles were largely uncredited. Then he was chosen to appear in Horse Feathers with the Marx Brothers as one of the two college football players who kidnap Harpo and Chico, and his career began to develop. His role as circus strongman Eugen Sandow in The Great Ziegfeld brought him the strongest reviews of his career.
