So So Def Recordings is a record label based in Atlanta, Georgia, and owned by producer Jermaine Dupri, specializing in Southern hip hop, R&B and bass music. The label So So Def was established in 1993 as a spin off of Dupri's production company of the same moniker, through a joint venture with... Sony Music and Columbia Records. Its first act was the female R&B group Xscape, whose debut album was released in the fall of the same year and went platinum—as did their second and third albums, released in 1995 and 1998. In 1994, the label released the debut album of Da Brat, who became the first solo female emcee to be certified for platinum album sales. In 1996, Kandi Burruss brought the singing group Jagged Edge to the attention of the label; their debut album, A Jagged Era, was released in 1997. So So Def later released the triple platinum debut album by Bow Wow in 2000. Other acts on the label have included: Dem Franchise Boyz, Maestro Harrell, The Ghost Town DJs, INOJ, J-Kwon, Trina Broussard, R.O.C., Anthony Hamilton. In 2002, So So Def's distribution deal with Columbia Records ended.

D.P.G. Recordz is a record label founded by Daz Dillinger, Soopafly and Terry Choe a.k.a. Teezy after he and Kurupt split up their group Tha Dogg Pound.

Death Row Records is a record label founded in 1991 by Marion "Suge" Knight Jr. and Andre Young . It was the record label of many popular West Coast hip hop artists such as 2Pac, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg and rap group Tha Dogg Pound consisting of rappers Kurupt and Daz Dillinger also... Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC although most departed from the label after its demise following the murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996. The collapse of Death Row Records meant its title as a powerful hip-hop label was subsequently revoked despite attempts from the last remaining founder and CEO at the time, Suge Knight, that included signing new talents and releasing many compilations of previously unreleased content recorded by ex-Death Row artists. The label filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and on January 15, 2009, Death Row Records was successfully auctioned to entertainment development company WIDEawake Entertainment Group, Inc. for $18 million. Death Row has sold nearly 50 million albums worldwide, and generated close to $750 million in revenue. In the late '80's, producer Andre "Dr. Dre" Young was a member of the gangsta rap group N.W.A.
