Prestige Records was a jazz record label founded in 1949 by Bob Weinstock. The company was located at 203 South Washington Avenue in Bergenfield, New Jersey, and recorded hundreds of albums by many of the leading jazz musicians of the day, sometimes issuing them under the names of several... subsidiaries. The company was sold to Fantasy in 1971, which was later absorbed by Concord. Weinstock opened a record store for collectors in 1948 while still a teenager. The store was next door to the Metropole Jazz Club in New York City. Jazz musicians would hang out and rehearse at the Club, and then migrate upstairs next door to Weinstock's store. Weinstock got the idea to record these jazz stars by offering them cash payments. Prestige office was located at 446 West 50th Street, New York City. The label's name was initially New Jazz, but changed to Prestige Records the next year. Its catalog contains a significant number of jazz classics, including renowned works by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk and many others. Weinstock was known for encouraging the performances to be unrehearsed for a more authentic, exciting sound.

Savoy Records is an American record label specializing in jazz, black gospel, soul/R&B, and blues. Starting in the mid 1940s, Savoy played an important part in popularizing the jazz subgenre of bebop. As of 2012, the Savoy library is primarily controlled by Nippon Columbia, a Tokyo,... Japan-based public company which purchased Savoy in 1991. Nippon Columbia's wholly owned subsidiary, Savoy Jazz, handles Savoy Records distribution in the United States. Savoy was founded in 1942 by Herman Lubinsky. The Newark, New Jersey label issued many of the important early bebop jazz albums. With the rise of rock and roll, Lubinsky concentrated more on African-American black gospel music, recording many of the finest groups of the 1950s and cementing Savoy's preeminence in the black gospel recording industry through its association with James Cleveland and his Gospel Music Workshop of America.

Columbia Records is an American record label, owned by Japan's Sony Music Entertainment, operating under the Columbia Music Group with Aware Records. It was founded in 1888, evolving from an earlier enterprise, the American Graphophone Company—successor to the Volta Graphophone Company.... Columbia is the oldest brand name in pre-recorded sound, being the first record company to produce pre-recorded records as opposed to blank cylinders. Columbia Records went on to release records by an array of notable singers, instrumentalists, and bands. From 1961 to 1990, its recordings were released outside the U.S. and Canada on the CBS Records label before adopting the Columbia name in most of the world. Until 1989, Columbia Records had no connection to Columbia Pictures, which used various other names for record labels they owned, including Colpix and later Arista; rather, it was connected to the original owner, CBS, which stood for Columbia Broadcasting System.
