Puntacana Resort & Club is a resort and residential community located in Punta Cana, La Altagracia Province, Dominican Republic; established in... 1969 by businessman and hotelier Frank Rainieri and Theodore W. Kheel, a New York attorney and labor mediator. The area now encompasses 26 square miles , and includes Tortuga Bay hotel, The Puntacana Hotel, a Six Senses Spa, an ecological reserve, four residential communities, several restaurants, two 18-hole golf courses and the Punta Cana International Airport. In 1969, Frank Rainieri and Theodore Kheel acquired a 58-million square meter lot on the eastern end of the Dominican Republic, which was covered with jungle. Their first project was a 40 guest hotel called the Punta Cana Club. In 1987, they constructed The Puntacana Hotel. In 2006, Tortuga Bay opened, a boutique hotel designed by fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. Tortuga Bay is a Leading Small Hotel of the World and a member of Virtuoso. Corporate and social responsibilities and policies have been pursued since the resort was built. They opened two schools and a health clinic in the community and have plans to build a new town center, school and hospital.

The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration was an international relief agency, largely dominated by the United States but... representing 44 nations. Founded in 1943, it became part of the United Nations in 1945, was especially active in 1945 and 1946, and largely shut down operations in 1947. Its purpose was to "plan, co-ordinate, administer or arrange for the administration of measures for the relief of victims of war in any area under the control of any of the United Nations through the provision of food, fuel, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities, medical and other essential services". Its staff of civil servants included 12,000 people, with headquarters in New York. Funding came from many nations, and totaled $3.7 billion, of which the United States contributed $2.7 billion; Britain $625 million and Canada $139 million. UNRRA cooperated closely with dozens of volunteer charitable organizations, who sent hundreds of their own agencies to work alongside UNRRA.

The League of Nations was an intergovernmental organisation founded as a result of the Paris Peace Conference that ended the First World War. It was... the first permanent international organisation whose principal mission was to maintain world peace. Its primary goals, as stated in its Covenant, included preventing wars through collective security and disarmament, and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration. Other issues in this and related treaties included labour conditions, just treatment of native inhabitants, human and drug trafficking, arms trade, global health, prisoners of war, and protection of minorities in Europe. At its greatest extent from 28 September 1934 to 23 February 1935, it had 58 members. The diplomatic philosophy behind the League represented a fundamental shift from the preceding hundred years. The League lacked its own armed force and depended on the Great Powers to enforce its resolutions, keep to its economic sanctions, or provide an army when needed. However, the Great Powers were often reluctant to do so. Sanctions could hurt League members, so they were reluctant to comply with them.

Alejandro Fernando Amenábar Cantos is a Spanish-Chilean film director. Amenábar was born in Santiago, Chile to a Spanish mother and... Chilean father, but the family moved to Spain just one year after his birth. He studied cinema at Madrid's Universidad Complutense but eventually dropped out. In addition to writing and directing his own films, Amenábar has maintained a notable career as a composer of film scores, including the Goya Awards-nominated score for José Luis Cuerda's La lengua de las mariposas. Amenábar was awarded the Grand Prix of the Jury at the International Venice Film Festival in 2004 for Mar adentro , and in February 2005 the same film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In February 2004, Amenábar came out to the Spanish gay magazine Shangay Express. Amenábar shot in 2008 an epic film called Ágora which he wrote with Mateo Gil. The film is set in Roman Egypt and is based on the life of philosopher and mathematician Hypatia of Alexandria.

Leonor Varela Palma is a Chilean actress, and model. She played the character Cleopatra in the 1999 film Cleopatra. She also has actively... participated in various ecological causes such as "Save Whales Again". Varela was born in Santiago, Chile, the daughter of Leonor, a massage therapist, and Chilean biologist and cognitive neuroscientist Francisco Varela García. She has a sister, Alejandra, and two brothers, Javier and Gabriel. Her mother, Leonor Palma, was of French, Hungarian and Syrian descent. Varela's family fled to Costa Rica in her early childhood when her homeland was overtaken by a military regime. She subsequently resided in Germany, the U.S., and France. In the early 1990s, her parents moved back to Chile, while she remained in Paris where she studied acting at the Niels Arestrup School, L'École du Passage, and Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris. Varela's first acting job was in 1995, playing Anette in Pony Trek, a children's film. Filming was in Iceland and Leonor was riding horses for three months. Then, referred to a French filmmaker by her dentist, she played in Shooting Stars .

Fernando Francisco González Ciuffardi is a retired professional tennis player from Chile. He is known for having one of the hardest forehands... on the circuit. González reached at least the quarterfinal round of all four Grand Slam tournaments. He played his first major final at the 2007 Australian Open, losing to top-ranked Roger Federer. He is the fourth male tennis player in history to have won each Olympic medal . Throughout his career, he has defeated many former no. 1 players, including Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer , Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moyà, Gustavo Kuerten, Marat Safin, and Pete Sampras. González qualified twice for the year-end Masters Cup event and was runner-up at two Masters Series tournaments. He is arguably Chile's best tennis player of the 2000s.

Horatio Sanz is a Chilean-born American actor and comedian best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1998-2006. Sanz most recently... starred alongside his former SNL castmate Chris Parnell in the Comedy Central series Big Lake. Sanz, the youngest of three sons, was born in Santiago, Chile to Sylvia and Carlos Sanz. He grew up in the North-Pulaski neighborhood on the west side of Chicago, Illinois. Starstruck at an early age, he honed his skills in Chicago, where he performed at various theaters, including The Court Theater and The Second City, where he was a member of their Chicago ETC theater. While in Chicago, Sanz was also one of the founding members of the Upright Citizens Brigade sketch comedy and improv troupe. Sanz can still be seen regularly performing with the sketch troupe at their long-running hit improv show "ASSSSCAT 3000", at both of the UCB's popular comedy theaters located in New York City and Los Angeles. Sanz joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in September 1998.
