The World Class Wreckin' Cru was an electro group, best known for its contributions to early rap and its association with future-N.W.A member,... hip-hop mogul, and renowned producer Dr. Dre. World Class Wreckin' Cru debuted in a club owned by one of the early West Coast DJs, Alonzo Williams. Before he opened "Eve After Dark" in 1979, Alonzo transformed from poplocking to DJ dances under the name of Disco Construction, which name is a influence from the funk group Brass Construction. Seeing the popularity of this new craze, he entered the market of running nightclub performances. The club opened with Detroit-born Andre Manuel aka Unknown DJ directing the music program whose main influence derived from an east coast flavour, Soulsonic Force, Orbit and Scorpio. As the 1980s arrived, so did electronic funk, sampling drum beats fused with old school rap format. Disco Construction changed its name into the Wreckin Cru. Lonzo hired local DJs Antoine "Yella" Carraby and Andre "Dr. Dre" Young who were DJs on KDAY.

Original Concept were an 80s hip hop group from Long Island, New York, arguably best known for their single, “Can You Feel It.” They only... made one album and it was notable for the absence of lyrics on many of the tracks. The group are perhaps better known for their production prowess and instrumentals than anything else. In the early 1980s, a group of young men at WBAU FM formed a group called the "Concept Crew." Their show “The Operating Room” was broadcast on Monday nights from Adelphi University on the same station which featured the Spectrum City DJs who later went on to form Public Enemy. The members were Doctor Dré, T-Money, Rapper G, Easy G and Wildman Steve. By 1986, the group began calling themselves Original Concept and had released their first record, "Knowledge Me" in February of that year. The B-Side of "Knowledge Me" went on to become their first single, "Can You Feel It." The single has since gone on to become one of the most sampled source records in hip-hop music. In 1988, the group was signed to Def Jam Records and in the Fall of that year they released their first and only album, Straight From the Basement of Kooley High! LP on Def Jam.

Death Row Records was a record label founded in 1991 by Marion "Suge" Knight Jr. and Andre Young . It was the record label of many popular West Coast hip hop artists such as 2Pac, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg and rap group Tha Dogg Pound consisting of rappers Kurupt and Daz Dillinger also... Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC although most departed from the label after its demise following the murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996. The collapse of Death Row Records meant its title as a powerful hip-hop label was subsequently revoked despite attempts from the last remaining founder and CEO at the time, Suge Knight, that included signing new talents and releasing many compilations of previously unreleased content recorded by ex-Death Row artists. The label filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and on January 15, 2009, Death Row Records was successfully auctioned to entertainment development company WIDEawake Entertainment Group, Inc. for $18 million. Death Row has sold nearly 50 million albums worldwide, and generated close to $750 million in revenue. In the late '80's, producer Andre "Dr. Dre" Young was a member of the gangsta rap group N.W.A.

Interscope Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group that operates as one third of UMG's Interscope-Geffen-A&M label group. Interscope was founded in 1990 by Jimmy Iovine and Interscope Communications' Ted Field with financial support from Atlantic Records . Initially... it was distributed by the Atlantic Records subsidiary East West Records America. A&R Executive John McClain and producer Beau Hill were also part of the original founding team. The original focus of the label was on hip-hop and urban music, but by the mid 90's its range began to expand, to extent where its roster would be as wide ranging to include the industrial rock artist Nine Inch Nails , shock rocker Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, Helmet, No Doubt and later the Latin artist Kings Of Flow in a unique partnership with Los Angeles based indie Latin label. Following UMG's acquisition of PolyGram in 1998, Geffen Records and A&M Records were merged into Interscope.
