Duff McKagan

The Fartz were originally formed in 1981 and were one of the first well-known hardcore bands from Seattle, Washington. They were signed to Jello... Biafra's Alternative Tentacles Record label. The Fartz were one of Seattle's earliest hardcore punk outfits, attacking governmental and religious corruption, racism, sexism, and poverty. The Fartz original lineup in 1981 included vocalist Blaine Cook , guitarist Tommy Hansen , bassist Steve Hoffman, and drummer Loud Fart. On the strength of a 1981 self-released 45 RPM 7" E.P. Fuck Art Let's Fart, they were signed to Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles Records, which released their full length LP entitled World Full of Hate in 1982, and also rereleased their first single under the new name,Because This Fuckin' World Stinks. They also had one song, "Campaign Speech," appear on the 1981 "Seattle Syndrome Vol. I" compilation released by Engram Records. Paul Solger replaced Tommy Hansen on guitar during the recording of the band's 1982 album, although Hansen wrote a number of the songs on it.

Neurotic Outsiders was a supergroup founded in 1995, consisting of Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses, and... John Taylor of Duran Duran. The very first line-up featured Billy Idol and Steve Stevens , but they were soon replaced by Jones and Taylor. The group was originally called Neurotic Boy Outsiders. Originally a gathering of friends jamming together at the Viper Room, they eventually recorded one eponymous album on Maverick Records in 1996, and did a brief tour of Europe and North America. The album, which was the only release by the band to date, is now out of print. They reunited briefly in April 1999 for three shows at the Viper Room. This wasn't the first time Guns N' Roses members and Steve Jones had collaborated. Axl Rose from Guns N' Roses, and Ian Astbury, Billy Duffy, and Mickey Curry, all from The Cult, which Matt Sorum played with both before and after Guns N' Roses, all made guest appearances on the Steve Jones solo album Fire and Gasoline.

Velvet Revolver is an American hard rock supergroup consisting of former Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum, alongside Dave... Kushner formerly of punk band Wasted Youth and Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland who left the band in 2008 but rejoined in 2012. In 2004, the band achieved commercial success with their debut album, Contraband. Despite positive reviews, some critics initially described Velvet Revolver as a mere combination of Stone Temple Pilots and Guns N' Roses, criticizing them for a "disconnection" between Scott Weiland and the rest of the band. With their single "Slither", they won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. The band released Libertad in 2007, driven by the release of the single "She Builds Quick Machines", and embarked on a tour with Alice in Chains. In April 2008, Weiland left Velvet Revolver and reunited with Stone Temple Pilots. Velvet Revolver was put on indefinite hiatus in April 2008, and in November of that year, the band was released by their record label RCA Records at their request to allow them "complete freedom to go through whatever process it would take to accomplish" replacing Weiland.

Besides manufacturing records for themselves, RCA Victor also operated RCA Custom which was the leading record manufacturer for the independent labels.

UZI Suicide was a vanity label that was created by Guns N' Roses to release their first record, Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide. While seemingly an independent label, it was actually created by Geffen Records. Guns N' Roses' debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was officially released through Geffen... Records. The label also re-released albums by the Finnish glam band Hanoi Rocks. Eventually, control of the company's assets was transferred to the band members, primarily Axl's new publishing company, Black Frog.

Geffen Records is an American record label, owned by Universal Music Group, and operated as one third of UMG's Interscope-Geffen-A&M label group. Geffen Records was founded in 1980 by music industry businessman David Geffen who, in the early 1970s, had founded Asylum Records. Geffen stepped... down from Asylum in 1975, when he crossed over to film and was named a vice-president of Warner Brothers Pictures. He was fired from Warner circa 1978, but remained locked in a 5-year contract, preventing him from working elsewhere. He returned to work in 1980 and struck a deal with Warner Bros. Records to create Geffen Records. Warner provided 100 percent of the funding for the label's operations and distributed the label's releases in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom - CBS/Epic Records handled distribution in the rest of the world until 1985, when Warner Bros. also took over those territories. However, in the United Kingdom the label switched distribution from Warner Bros. to CBS in 1981. Profits were split 50/50 between Geffen and the respective distributors.
