Broughty Castle is a historic castle in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland. It was completed around 1495, although the site was earlier fortified in... 1454 when George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus received permission to build on the site. His son Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus was coerced into ceding the castle to the crown. The main tower house forming the centre of the castle with four floors was built by Andrew, 2nd Lord Gray who was granted the castle in 1490. The castle saw military action during the 16th-century War of the Rough Wooing. After the battle of Pinkie in September 1547 it was surrendered by purchase to the English by its owner, Lord Gray of Foulis. A messenger from the castle, Rinyon Cockburn, who spoke to the English supreme commander the Duke of Somerset before the castle was rendered was given a £4 reward. The Scottish keeper, Henry Durham, was rewarded with an English pension, income from the fishing, and an import/export licence. Durham later lent the English commander £138.

The Caird Hall is the principal concert auditorium in Dundee, Scotland. Built between 1914 and 1923 and named after its benefactor, the jute baron... James Key Caird, the Caird Hall regularly hosts the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The hall's pipe organ is one of the finest Romantic concert organs in the United Kingdom and was built in 1923, by Harrison & Harrison, who also completed a restoration in 1992. The Hall is used for graduation ceremonies from the University of Dundee and the University of Abertay Dundee, as well as other significant university events such as the former university's Rectorial Installation and Principal's welcome to first year students. The venue has a capacity of 2,300 fully seated, but can be subdivided or converted to standing where required. The decorative plaster work was produced by H.H.Martyn & co of Cheltenham Gloucestershire, holders of the Royal Warrant.Other plaster decorations include the Lal Bagh Palace Indore India, Adelphi Hotel Liverpool, Buckingham Palace, Ulster Parliament Buildings,also Cunard, & P&O liners, Cinemas, Etc.

The Mills Observatory in Dundee, Scotland, is the only full-time public astronomical observatory in the UK . Built in 1935, the observatory is... classically styled in sandstone and has a distinctive 7 m dome, which houses a Victorian refracting telescope, a small planetarium, and display areas. The dome is one of two made from papier-mâché to survive in the UK, the other being at the Godlee Observatory. The main telescope is a Victorian 0.25m Cooke refractor, with a focal length of 3.75 m. It was made in York in 1871 by Thomas Cooke and the optical components are of the highest quality. The telescope is actually older than the building. The dome also houses a 0.3m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, which was purchased in 2006. When the Mills Observatory opened on 28 October 1935 it originally housed a 450mm reflecting telescope, constructed by the Newcastle based company of Grubb Parsons. The remains of the original telescope can be seen in the upper display area of the observatory. The dome itself is made of papier-mâché with a steel frame, and was also supplied by Grubb Parsons.

Sensation is a science centre located in Dundee, Scotland, and is part of the Scottish Science Centres Network. The centre is a registered non-profit... organization that is funded by the public and donations from local corporate sponsors. The interactive exhibits focus mainly on the life sciences, and in particular on the senses. There is also a focus on robotics, and a practical exploration of science learning. Daily shows include: Keyhole Surgery, Science on the Spot, MindBall, Looking for Life Plaentarium show and Solar System show. Sensation is also a corporate venue and a HMIE-inspected resource for science learning and public engagement. The centre hosts school groups, uniformed groups and also birthday parties. There is an in-house cafe and a gift shop, stocking many science and educational products. Sensation is open daily from 10am to 5pm. As one of the Millennium Commission projects, it opened in July 2000 at the cost of around £5 million.

George Martin Lamb is an English radio and TV presenter. He is the son of actor Larry Lamb. Lamb currently presents the Channel 4 game show The Bank... Job. Lamb's radio career peaked with presenting his own daytime show on BBC Radio 6 Music for two years from October 2007 to November 2009, before being moved the early weekend mornings for 6 months and eventually leaving the station in May 2010. His show mixed banter with his Ministry of Sound DJ co-host Marc Hughes and Jamaican patois and dance-hall music. The last known radio work was a slot for Spotify as sponsored by Starbucks. Lamb's television career started in 2007 when he replaced Alex Zane as the host of the second series of BBC reality show Celebrity Scissorhands and returned in 2008 for the third series. He has also presented The Restaurant, Road To V and Young Butcher of the Year, as parodied on Harry Hill's TV Burp, and also parodied by Ray Peacock and Ed Gamble on The Peacock and Gamble Podcast. Lamb was the presenter of Big Brother's Little Brother from mid-2008, taking over from Dermot O'Leary who had presented BBLB since 2001.

He lives in London, with his wife, an Australian publicist. Throughout Danny's books, his wife is referred to as "Lizzie", at her request. Wallace was born in Dundee, Scotland and attended Park Place Primary School but also grew up in Loughborough and Bath, England, though thinks of himself as Scottish. He began writing reviews for video game magazines at the age of 13 for school work experience: a reviewer had become ill and so Wallace was given the opportunity to review a game. At 18 he started writing comedy, mainly through the magazine Comedy Review. He specialised in media studies at the University of Westminster. At 22, he became a BBC producer. He was part of the production team behind British Comedy Award-winning Dead Ringers, the original producer of the critically acclaimed cult hit The Mighty Boosh, and the creator and producer of Ross Noble Goes Global.

His mother, Mary Ann Guillerline , was a spinner who worked in the jute mills and suffered several nervous breakdowns during Cox's childhood. Cox was subsequently brought up by his elder sisters. He joined the Dundee Repertory Theatre at the age of fourteen.

William "Bill" Cruickshanks is a Scottish born-Australian professional wrestler better known by his stage name Bill Dundee. Cruickshanks is the... father of Jamie Dundee and the father-in-law of wrestler Bobby Eaton. Dundee was born in Kirriemuir, Scotland, and raised in Melbourne. At the age of 16, he joined the circus as a trapeze artist. He started wrestling in Australia in 1962 and finally arrived in the United States as "Superstar" Bill Dundee in 1974 with his tag team partner George Barnes. Dundee made a name for himself in the Memphis Territory where he regularly teamed and feuded with Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Valiant for years. Dundee and Lawler ventured to the American Wrestling Association together in 1987 and captured the AWA World Tag Team Titles twice. As a singles wrestler, he held the Southern Heavyweight Championship belt several times from roughly 1975-1985 and also had a successful team with "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel that wreaked havoc in Tennessee.

Andrew Neil "Andy" Webster is a Scottish footballer who plays as a centre back for Heart of Midlothian. He is well known for the transfer saga in... which he invoked updated FIFA transfer regulations to leave Hearts for Wigan Athletic, a move which has been compared to the landmark Bosman ruling and is now known as the Webster ruling. Webster began his career at Arbroath in the Scottish Second Division. He made his debut aged 17, against Stirling Albion in the League Cup on 24 August 1999. He went on to make 24 appearances in total over nearly two seasons. His first and only goal for the club came on 17 March 2001 during a league match against Queen's Park which Arbroath won 2–0. Little over a week later, Scottish Premier League club Dundee United confirmed they had had a "five-figure bid accepted", with the bid to be completed at the end of the season. Two days later, Webster phoned manager Alex Smith to inform he had turned down the chance to move to Tannadice. Shortly afterwards he was signed to Hearts by then manager Craig Levein on 30 March for a reported £75,000.

Kelly Wood is a Scottish curler who has represented her home country and Great Britain and Northern Ireland on an International and Olympic scale.... Wood made her curling debut at Letham Grange Ice Rink in 1999 competing in the World Junior Curling Championships. Playing as a second curler the team finished a respectable fifth position. She has competed in numerous European and World championships and has been skip of the curling team four times. Scotland's curling dominance over the two other host nations of Great Britain secured its place at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Wood was shortlisted along with nine other female curlers to be considered for a place on the women's Olympic team and became successful to travel to Turin to defend Rhona Martin's Olympic gold that Team GB won in Salt Lake City in 2002. She joined Rhona Martin, Lynn Cameron, Jackie Lockhart and Debbie Knox. As in her other international games, Wood played second throughout the Olympic competition. However, despite beating U.S. 10-4 after only six ends, Team GB's Olympic hopes were shattered as Canada beat Denmark in a nail-biting match in the final end.

Hilton McRae is a Scottish actor in the fields of theatre, television and film. McRae was part of the radical theatre group 7:84 before graduating... from Edinburgh University, and by 1977 he had joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. McRae has oncentrated mainly on avant-garde and political theatre. His most mainstream American film role was as Green Leader, in Return of the Jedi. In the UK he had substantial roles in The French Lieutenant's Woman and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan. He has performed in several musicals on the London stage, including Mamma Mia and Miss Saigon, in which he played the part of The Engineer. He performed the role of Mr Stopnick in the UK premiere of Caroline, or Change at the National Theatre, which won the Best Musical Award from the London newspaper the Evening Standard. In 2008 he played the part of Scarecrow in the Southbank's production of The Wizard of Oz. In 2006, he acted in Rabbit, a play by Nina Raine which opened at the Old Red Lion Theatre in London, and then transferred to the Trafalgar Studios, Whitehall. In 2009, McRae won raves as the title role in The Execution of Gary Glitter.
