Isabella Marie "Bella" Swan is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Twilight series, written by Stephenie Meyer. The Twilight series,... consisting of the novels Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, is primarily narrated from Bella's point-of-view. In Twilight, Bella moves to her father's home in Forks, Washington, meets the mysterious Cullen family, and falls in love with Edward Cullen. However, she soon discovers that the family is a coven of vampires. Bella expresses a desire to become a vampire herself, against Edward's wishes. In the second novel, New Moon, Edward and the other Cullens leave Forks in an effort to keep Bella safe from the vampire world. Jacob Black, a member of the Quileute tribe who is also a shape shifter taking a wolf form, comforts the distraght and severely depressed Bella. She comes to care deeply for Jacob, though less than she loves Edward. In Eclipse, Bella becomes engaged to Edward, and they marry in Breaking Dawn. Edward then transforms Bella into a vampire after she nearly dies giving birth to their daughter, Renesmee.

The romance novel is a literary genre developed in Western culture, mainly in English-speaking countries. Novels in this genre place their primary... focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an "emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending." Through the late 20th and early 21st centuries, these novels are commercially in two main varieties: category romances, which are shorter books with a one-month shelf-life, and single-title romances, which are generally longer with a longer shelf-life. Separate from their type, a romance novel can exist within one of many subgenres, including contemporary, historical, science fiction and paranormal. One of the earliest romance novels was Samuel Richardson's popular 1740 novel Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded, which was revolutionary on two counts: it focused almost entirely on courtship and did so entirely from the perspective of a female protagonist. In the next century, Jane Austen expanded the genre, and her Pride and Prejudice is often considered the epitome of the genre. Austen inspired Georgette Heyer, who introduced historical romances in 1921.

Characters may be human, supernatural, mythical, divine, animal, or personifications of an abstraction. Characterisation is the process of creating an image of a person in fiction, complete with that person's traits, features, and motivation. Plot is a sequence of interrelated events arranged to form a causal pattern and achieve an intended effect.

Horror fiction is a genre of fiction, which is intended to scare its readers, and horror is synonymously used with a shudder. The genre of horror has... other names that are regularly used, examples of these are: thriller, dark fantasy, terror, dark suspense etc. The genre originated in 1700s and the first appearance was made by Horace Walpole with his Castle of Otranto . This piece of work was called the first gothic novel and later led to horror, based on a reinterpretation. Categories of horror are all similar, in the use of overwhelming dark, evil forces and demonic aspects. The different types of horror are: Dark fiction; this is a psychological type of horror, historical horror; where the stories find place in the past or in realistic settings or psychological horror; where the characters psychological problems generates horror. The trait of the genre of horror is that it hits a button, emotional, psychological or physical within each individual which causes someone to react with fear.

Young Adult Literature is also called "YA Lit". The definition of Young Adult Literature varies based upon the age group at which the literature is... aimed, and who is asked. Authors, readers, and young adult agencies all have different views of the definition. However, it is generally agreed that Young Adult Literature is literature written for adolescent readers, and in some cases published by adolescent writers. The Young Adult Library Services of the American Library Association defines a young adult as "someone between the ages of twelve and eighteen". Young adult novels have also been defined as texts written for the ages of twelve and up. Authors and readers of young adult novels often define the genre as "literature written for ages ranging from ten years up to the age of twenty" . Another suggestion for the definition is that Young Adult Literature is any text being read by adolescents, though this definition is still somewhat controversial. Beginning in the 1920s, it was said that "this was the first time when it became clear that the young were a separate generation" .
