The John W. Jones House currently stands at 1250 Davis Street, Elmira, New York, across from a historic entrance to Woodlawn Cemetery. It is the... former home of John W. Jones and current home of the John W. Jones Museum. It stands on part of its original property, though it originally faced College Avenue.Historically, the house was the private residence of John W. Jones and his family, but changed ownership several times since, and was used as rental property that fell into disrepair. Condemned by the City of Elmira in 1997, Lucy Brown brought it to the public’s attention and with a group of concerned citizens, saved it from demolition. It is now the home to the John W. Jones Museum. The Museum has not been officially opened at the time of writing. The museum emphasizes Elmira’s role as the only regular agency and published station on the Underground Railroad between Philadelphia and St. Catherine, Canada, and explores Mr. Jones’s community involvement and his relationship with his contemporaries. It also highlights the history of African Americans who settled in the Southern Tier of New York and the activity of local abolitionists. John W.

The Elmira Coca-Cola Bottling Company Works is located at 415 West Second Street, Elmira, New York. It was built in 1939 in the Art Moderne style.... The building was designed by architect Lucius Read White, Jr. The structure is significant for its architecture and its role in industry, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The building is no longer a bottling plant and now used by G. O. Wick, Inc.

The Chemung Canal Bank Building is located at 415 East water Street in Elmira, Chemung County, New York, United States. It is thought to be the... oldest commercial building in Elmira. The Chemung Canal opened in 1832. This made a local bank necessary, to deposit cash, and supply capitol and credit, and in 1833 the Chemung Canal Bank was chartered. Construction on the bank building began the same year. The bank moved into the new building in 1833. The building continued to house the bank for seventy-six years. For the following fifty-six years it was home to various local law offices. From 1976 forward, it has been owned by the Chemung County Historical Society. The building is significant for its period architecture and its place in the history of the area. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Chemung Canal Bank Building was chartered in July 1833, and was open for business later that year in October. It was owned and operated by the Chemung Canal Bank until 1920 when they moved to a new location. After the Chemung Canal Bank moved, the building came under the ownership of the Arnot Realty Company.

Quarry Farm is located in Elmira, New York. In 1869, Jervis Langdon purchased it as a vacation home for his family. When he died the following year,... it was inherited by his eldest daughter, Susan Langdon Crane, Mark Twain's sister-in-law. Twain and his family summered there for over twenty years. He wrote much of his work in an octagonal study built expressly for him about 200 yards from the main house in 1874. The study has since been moved to the Elmira College Old Campus in order to protect it from vandalism. The home is not open to the public.

The... second of nine children, he grew up in an Irish-American family; he claims direct descendence from Scottish poet Robert Burns. His parents originally intended for him to be an engineer. He attended Elmira Free Academy for high school. He also attended GST BOCES Bush Campus in Elmira, New York for Fashion Design. Rather than furthering his education, he started to work in retail at the age of 18. Hilfiger would go to New York City to buy jeans and bell-bottom pants, which he customized and resold at a local downtown Elmira store, Brown's. He later opened his own store, named The People's Place, around the block in downtown Elmira. Over the years, a number of stores closed in downtown Elmira as shopping traffic shifted to the new Arnot Mall in Horseheads, New York. After seven years, The People's Place went bankrupt, when Hilfiger was 25. The site of the original store has since been demolished to make room for First Arena, home of the Elmira Jackals Hockey team.

After early studies on piano and organ in his home... town, he went to Berlin for four years to study composition with Engelbert Humperdinck and piano with Ernst Jedliczka at the Stern conservatory. On returning to the U.S. in 1907 he began teaching at the Hackley School for boys in Tarrytown, New York, a post which he held until his early death 13 years later. Griffes is the most famous American representative of musical Impressionism. He was fascinated by the exotic, mysterious sound of the French Impressionists, and was compositionally much influenced by them while he was in Europe. He also studied the work of contemporary Russian composers , whose influence is also apparent in his work, for example in his use of synthetic scales. His most famous works are the White Peacock, for piano ; his Piano Sonata ; a tone poem, The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan, after the fragment by Coleridge , and Poem for Flute and Orchestra .

During childhood, his family moved from his birthplace, Ridgewood, New Jersey, to Elmira, New York. He lived in Elmira for ten years, before moving to Middletown, New Jersey, when he was in junior high school. He was graduated from Mater Dei High School, a Roman Catholic high school in the New Monmouth section of Middletown. While in high school, he was a volunteer firefighter for three years at the Middletown Township Fire Department. His first job was as a busboy at Perkins Pancake House.

Carolan had a successful amateur wrestling career in high school, before being trained by the All Knighters. After her debut in May 2001, she wrestled for numerous independent promotions, and was the inaugural GLORY Champion. She also appeared at the inaugural Shimmer shows. In 2004, she began working for Ohio Valley Wrestling , and signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in October 2005. She first debuted on WWE's Raw brand in May 2006, but suffered a legitimate broken jaw the following month. As a result, she had numerous surgeries and returned to OVW for further training. While there, she twice won the OVW Women's Championship, although her second reign is not officially recognized. She returned to the Raw brand in July 2008, and was heavily pushed, dominating the other WWE Divas and gaining the nickname, "The Glamazon".

Matthew "Matt" Knowles is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, HC Loc. He is perhaps best known for his tenure in Ring... of Honor, where he is a one time World Tag Team Champion with Tony DeVito as a part of The Carnage Crew. After watching a television advertisement for "Crunchers Gym", a professional wrestling school operated by Bob Bailey, Knowles decided to enroll in order to become a professional wrestler. Despite being uncertain as to whether or not he would be accepted into the school, given that he was exceptionally small for a professional wrestler in the mid-1990s, Knowles contacted Bailey and was admitted to the school. He would then train under Bailey and T.C. Reynolds for six days a week over the course of fifteen months. After taking part in several tag team matches and battle royals, he wrestled his first singles match on August 8, 1996 against Steve Corino in Bailey's own promotion. Knowles originally wrestled under his own name, but later renamed himself to HC Loc. The "HC" stood for "Hard Core" .

Jeff Plate is a professional drummer and percussionist. He currently plays with the progressive rock group Trans-Siberian Orchestra and with thrash... metal band Metal Church until their 2009 disbanding, although he is most remembered for his drumming for the band, Savatage on their albums since Japan Live '94. Plate grew up near Elmira, New York with dreams of becoming a pitcher for the New York Yankees, but his hip popped out of a joint and he was advised to give up playing sports for two years, leaving his dreams behind. However, he saw KISS perform on television when he was 13, which inspired him to become a musician. After moving to Boston, Massachusetts in 1986 , Jeff met Boston guitarist Matt Leff through a mutual friend, Leff had been playing in a band Wicked Witch, whose lead vocalist was Zak Stevens. Wicked Witch went through a few lineup changes and had broken up at the time Matt and Jeff started playing together. Zak was living in Hollywood but had decided to move to Boston to reform a 2nd version of Wicked Witch.
