Candler School of Theology, Emory University, is one of 13 seminaries of the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1914, the school was named after... Warren Akin Candler, a former President and Chancellor of Emory University and a Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Currently more than 500 students from over 50 denominations attend Candler School of Theology. The Candler School is located on the Emory campus in the metropolitan Atlanta area in western unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The World Methodist Evangelism Institute is a joint project with the World Methodist Council.

The Emory University School of Medicine is the Graduate Medical School of Emory University and a component of Emory’s Robert W. Woodruff Health... Sciences Center. It is consistently ranked among the nation’s top institutions for biomedical education, clinical care, and research. Emory University School of Medicine traces its origins back to 1915 when the Atlanta Medical College , the Southern Medical College , and the Atlanta School of Medicine merged together. In 2011, the entering class of 138 medical students hailed from 63 different colleges and had an average undergraduate GPA of 3.7 and an average MCAT of 34. In the 2011 entering class, 63% of students majored in science or engineering, 25% majored in humanities, and 12% majored in both science and humanities. Upon matriculation, medical students are divided into four societies through which they participate in small group learning exercises that foster differential diagnosis abilities, clinical skills, and professional development. The societies are named after four historic physicians who contributed significantly to the practice of medical science during their lifetimes.

James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. is an American politician who served as the 39th President of the United States and was the recipient of the 2002... Nobel Peace Prize, the only U.S. President to have received the Prize after leaving office. Before he became President, Carter served as a U.S. Naval officer, was a peanut farmer, served two terms as a Georgia State Senator and one as Governor of Georgia . During Carter's term as President, two new cabinet-level departments were created: the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. He established a national energy policy that included conservation, price control, and new technology. In foreign affairs, Carter pursued the Camp David Accords, the Panama Canal Treaties, the second round of Strategic Arms Limitation Talks , and returned the Panama Canal Zone to Panama. Throughout his career, Carter strongly emphasized human rights. He took office during a period of international stagflation, which persisted throughout his term.

Michael A. Bellesiles is a former professor of American colonial and legal history at Emory University best known as the author of Arming America:... The Origins of a National Gun Culture , a book that won the prestigious Bancroft Prize in 2001. The prize was rescinded in 2002 after an inquiry of distinguished historians found Bellesiles "guilty of unprofessional and misleading work." Bellesiles responded that he had "never fabricated evidence of any kind nor knowingly evaded my responsibilities as a scholar," but he nonetheless resigned his Emory professorship the same year. Bellesiles received his B.A. from the University of California-Santa Cruz in 1975 and his PhD from the University of California at Irvine in 1986. He joined the Emory University faculty in 1988 and was promoted to full professor in 1999. There he served as director of undergraduate studies in history, 1991–1998, and as director of Emory's Center for the Study of Violence. Bellesiles also taught at the University of California, Los Angeles.
