Knight Library is the main facility of the University of Oregon's library system. It is located on the university's campus in Eugene, Oregon, United... States. The library design is emblematic of the architecture of the university's older buildings, and it serves as a hub of student activity. As of 2008 it has a collection of more than 3 million volumes. The building was opened in 1937 to replace the original library building , which the University's collections had outgrown. Construction of the library was financed as a Depression-era Works Progress Administration project, spearheaded by Oregon senator Frederick Steiwer and took more than two years to complete. "The New Libe" as the Oregon Daily Emerald student newspaper had christened the building, was designed by Ellis F. Lawrence of the Oregon-based architectural firm Lawrence, Holford, and Allyn. Lawrence was also a driving force in much of the core architecture of the UO campus and was the first Dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts.

Deady Hall is a historic building located in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It was the University of Oregon's first building, and remained the... university's only building for almost ten years after its construction. After the university gained other buildings, it was known simply as the "Old Building", but in 1893 it was renamed "Deady Hall" in honor of Matthew Deady, Oregon's first federal judge. Deady Hall is variously described as simplified Italianate with Second Empire details or simply as Second Empire . This building was listed on National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It and nearby Villard Hall were together designated as one National Historic Landmark in 1977.

The Matthew Knight Arena is a 12,541 seat multi-purpose arena in Eugene, Oregon and the home of the University of Oregon Ducks basketball teams,... replacing McArthur Court. It is located on the east side of campus at the corner of Franklin Boulevard and Villard Street, a gateway to campus as people arrive from I-5. The arena was originally intended to be ready for the start of the 2010–11 basketball season, but instead opened for the men's basketball game against the USC Trojans on January 13, 2011. It is named for chief donor Phil Knight's son, who died at the age of 34 in a scuba diving accident. The arena cost $227 million and was designed as collaboration between TVA Architects of Portland, Oregon and Ellerbe Becket of Kansas City, Missouri. Hoffman Construction Company of Portland, Oregon was the general contractor. The Ducks christened the arena to a sold-out crowd on January 13, 2011, beating the USC Trojans 68 to 62. The arena floor is named Kilkenny Floor after former Oregon Athletic Director Pat Kilkenny.

The Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House, or Castle on the Hill in Eugene, Oregon, United States is a Victorian-era residence that is listed on the... National Register of Historical Places. It is named for the three families who called it home over the years. The house is now open for public tours and pre-arranged private events. The Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House is located at 303 Willamette Street in Eugene, Oregon, at the south side of Skinner Butte. The Queen Anne-styled house, built in 1888 for Dr. T. W. Shelton, was designed by Salem, Oregon architect Walter D. Pugh. It has undergone several modifications, including an enlargement in the 1910s for Dr. Robert McMurphey, and a remodel by Drs. Curtis and Eva Johnson in 1951 which restored its original turret. The house suffered two major fires, one during its initial construction, and a second one in 1950 during the Johnson remodel. The house was deeded to Lane County in 1976.

David Ogden Stiers is an American actor, director, vocal actor, and musician, noted for his roles in Disney movies, as well as his performances in... the television series M*A*S*H as Major Charles Emerson Winchester III and the science fiction drama The Dead Zone as Reverend Gene Purdy. He is also known for the role of Attorney Michael Reston in the Perry Mason TV movies. Stiers was born in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Margaret Elizabeth and Kenneth Truman Stiers. He attended Urbana High School, at the same time as film critic Roger Ebert. He later relocated to Eugene, Oregon, where he graduated from North Eugene High School and briefly attended the University of Oregon. He later ventured to San Francisco, where he performed with the California Shakespeare Theater, San Francisco Actors Workshop, and the improv group The Committee, whose members included Rob Reiner and Howard Hesseman. Soon after, Stiers studied drama at Juilliard. During his studies, Stiers was mentored by accomplished theater actor John Houseman and would later join his City Center Acting Company.

Wayne Lyman Morse was a politician and attorney from Oregon, United States, known for his proclivity for opposing his parties' leadership, and... specifically for his opposition to the Vietnam War on constitutional grounds. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, and educated at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Minnesota Law School, Morse moved to Oregon in 1930 and began teaching at the University of Oregon School of Law. During World War II he was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican; he became an Independent after Dwight D. Eisenhower's election to the presidency in 1952. While an independent, he set a record for performing the longest one-person filibuster in the history of the Senate. Morse joined the Democratic Party in 1955, and was reelected twice while a member of that party. Morse made a brief run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 1960. A few years later, Morse was one of only two Senators who opposed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which authorized the president to take military action in Vietnam without a declaration of war.

Kate Wilhelm is an American writer whose works include science fiction, mystery, and fantasy. Wilhelm was born in Toledo, Ohio. Her work has been... published in Quark , Orbit , Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Locus, Amazing Stories, Asimov's Science Fiction, Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, Fantastic , Omni, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine and Cosmopolitan, among many other places. She and her second husband, Damon Knight, mentored many authors and helped to establish the Clarion Writers Workshop and the Milford Writer's Workshop. Since the death of Damon Knight in 2002, Wilhelm has continued to host monthly workshops, as well as lecturing at other events. Kate Wilhelm lives in Eugene, Oregon. In 2009, she was the recipient of one of the first three Solstice Awards presented by the SFWA in recognition of her contributions to the field of science fiction.. Reynolds... was born in Eugene, Oregon and attended Corvallis High School in Corvallis, Oregon, starring in football, basketball and baseball. He was a member of the 3A State Championship football team in 1978. He graduated from Corvallis High in 1979, and was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Although Reynolds was drafted in the 4th round of the amateur draft on June 5, 1979, by the San Diego Padres, he elected not to sign and joined the Long Beach City College baseball team. The following summer, on June 3, 1980, Reynolds was selected in the 1st round of the amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners. Reynolds signed with the Mariners after one season with Cal State Long Beach. Reynolds spent several seasons in the minor leagues, playing in Lynn, Massachusetts for the Lynn Sailors, before being called up by the Mariners and making his major league debut on September 2, 1983. The following season he played AAA ball before being called up again in September 1984.

Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer was an American actress best known for her role in the sitcom My Sister Sam. Schaeffer was stalked and then murdered by... Robert John Bardo, prompting the passage of anti-stalking laws in California. Schaeffer, the only child of a child psychologist and a writer, was raised in Portland, Oregon where she attended Lincoln High School and aspired to be a rabbi. As a teen, she began modeling and appeared in television commercials and as an extra in a television film. She then moved to New York to pursue acting. After landing the cover of Seventeen magazine, she tested successfully for the part of Patti Russell on the CBS sitcom My Sister Sam. After the series ended in 1988, Schaeffer went on to appear in Radio Days , Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills, The End of Innocence and the television film Out of Time. She also served as a spokesperson for the children's charity Thursday's Child. On July 18, 1989, Schaeffer was murdered by Robert John Bardo, an obsessed fan who had been stalking her for three years.

Susan Raye is an American country music singer. She enjoyed great popularity during the early and mid 1970's and chalked up seven top 10 and... nineteen top 40 country hits Susan Raye discography, most notably the song "L.A. International Airport" , an international crossover pop hit in 1971. Raye was a protegee of country music singer Buck Owens. Owens and Raye recorded a number of hit albums and singles together, and were one of the most successful country duet acts of the era, in addition to their solo careers. Raye was born in 1944 in Eugene, Oregon. She first began singing with a high-school rock group, but after the band called it quits, she auditioned for a local country station. Not only did she begin performing on the radio, she also landed work as a disc jockey, eventually becoming the host of a Portland TV program called Hoedown. It was at one of Raye's performances at an area nightclub where she met Jack McFadden, Owens' manager. McFadden was so impressed with her vocal talents that he persuaded Owens to fly her to his home in Bakersfield, California, for an audition.

She co-starred with her husband on The Crocodile Hunter, their unconventional television nature documentary series along with its spin-off series, Croc Files and The Crocodile Hunter Diaries. She has lived in Australia since 1992, when she married Steve Irwin. She was born Theresa Penelope Raines in Eugene, Oregon, the youngest of three daughters of Clarence and Judy Raines. Her family was in the trucking business. During her childhood, her father constantly brought home injured animals from the highways on which his trucks travelled; this eventually instilled in her an ongoing commitment to saving and rehabilitating wild animals. While working in the family business in 1986, she started a rehabilitation facility called "Cougar Country" to re-educate and release predatory mammals such as foxes, possums, raccoons, bears, bobcats, and cougars back into the wild. Soon she was handling 300 animals each year.

Lewis Shiner is an American writer. Shiner began his career as a science fiction writer, identified early on with cyberpunk, and later wrote more... mainstream novels, albeit often with magical realism and fantasy elements. He was formerly a resident of Texas , and now lives in North Carolina. Several of his novels have rock music as a theme or main focus, especially the musicians of the late 1960s; for example, Shiner's 1993 novel Glimpses considers the great never-recorded albums of The Doors, Brian Wilson, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Say Goodbye: The Laurie Moss Story focuses on a fictional up and coming female musician and her subsequent fall back down. Slam is immersed in skate punk and anarchist culture. Perhaps because novels with music as a major theme are not generally considered mainstream genre material, his work has frequently been overlooked. In July 2007 Shiner created the web site Fiction Liberation Front as a venue for his short stories. The stories are released under the Creative Commons license and are available in HTML and PDF formats.
