Fayetteville is a town in Fayette County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 15,945. The city is the county seat of Fayette County. Fayetteville is located approximately 22 miles from the city of Atlanta. As of the 2000 Census, there were 11,148 people, 4,338 households, and 2,967 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,126.7 people per square mile . There were 4,572 housing units at an average density of 462.1 per square mile .
