Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey , is the largest institution for higher education in New Jersey, United States. It was originally chartered as Queen's College in 1766. It is the eighth-oldest college in the United States and one of the nine Colonial colleges founded before the American... Revolution. Rutgers was originally a private university affiliated with the Dutch Reformed Church and admitted only male students, but evolved into a coeducational public research university. Rutgers is one of only two colonial colleges that later became public universities, the other being The College of William and Mary. Rutgers was designated The State University of New Jersey by acts of the New Jersey Legislature in 1945 and 1956. The three campuses of Rutgers are in New Brunswick and Piscataway, Newark and Camden. The Newark campus was formerly the University of Newark, which merged into the Rutgers system in 1946, and the Camden campus was created in 1950 from the College of South Jersey and the South Jersey Law School. Rutgers is the largest state university within New Jersey.

Glassboro is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 19,068. What is now Glassboro was originally formed as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 11, 1878, from portions of Clayton Township.... Portions of the township were taken to form Elk Township and Pitman . Glassboro was incorporated as a borough on March 18, 1920, replacing Glassboro Township. Glassboro is home to Rowan University, formerly Glassboro State College. It was the site of the Glassboro Summit Conference that took place in 1967. Glassboro is located at 39°42′05″N 75°6′47″W / 39.70139°N 75.11306°W / 39.70139; -75.11306 . According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 9.2 square miles , of which, 9.2 square miles of it is land and 0.11% is water. Glassboro borders Elk Township, Clayton Borough, Monroe Township, Washington Township, Pitman Borough, Mantua Township, and Harrison Township. As of the census of 2000, there were 19,068 people, 6,225 households, and 4,046 families residing in the borough.
