Marion Bartoli is a French professional tennis player and the current French no. 1. She has won seven Women's Tennis Association singles titles and... three doubles titles. She was also a runner-up at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships. Bartoli has defeated three reigning world no. 1 players in her career so far. She defeated Justine Henin in the semifinal of the 2007 Wimbledon Championships, 1–6, 7–5, 6–1, Jelena Janković in the fourth round of the 2009 Australian Open, 6–1, 6–4 and Victoria Azarenka 6–3, 6–3 in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Sony Ericsson Open. She has also recorded wins over other top players such as Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Ana Ivanović, Lindsay Davenport, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Dinara Safina, Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova, Sam Stosur and Kim Clijsters. Seine Lehrer waren Renna Kellaway and Joachim Volkmann, er wurde von Vlado Perlmuter, Joge Bolet, Joaquin Achucarro und Pierr Luarent Aimard unterwiesen. Er erhielt Kammermusikunterricht bei Roger Raphael, Emmanuel Hurwitz, Cecil Aronowitz und Lamar Crowson. Nach einer frühen, erfolgreichen Karriere, arbeitete er als Lehrer, Übersetzer und im Künstlermanagement. Ermutigt von Murray Perahia, dem er 1993 im Centre for Advanced Studies in Aldeburgh vorspielte, und von Menahem Pressler, mit dem er 1996 am Banff Centre for the Arts arbeitete, nahm er seine Konzertkarriere wieder auf. Ein in der Kritik gepriesenes Debutkonzert in Edinburghs Queen's Hall, führte zu einer kommerziellen Live-Aufnahme eines Klavierabends 1996. Es folgten weitere Angebote zu konzertieren, sowohl aus Großbritanienen als auch aus Deutschland. Sein Repertoire beinhaltet etwa 25 Solokonzerte mit Orchester, Soprepertoire von früher französischer Cembalomusik bis zur zeitgenössischen Musik und ein umfangreiches Repertoire in Kammermusik und Liedbegleitung. 2008 wurde Nicholas Ashtons Aufnahme des gesamten Klavierwerks von Robert Crawford für das Label Delphian Records international in den Medien gefeiert. Nicholas arbeitet seit Jahren regelmäßig mit dem Streichquartett „Edinburgh Quartet“, mit dem er das gesamte Quintettrepertoire aufgeführt hat. Ein anderer regelmäßiger Kammermusikpartner von Nicholas Ashton ist der englische Pianist Andrew Wilde, mit dem er im nächsten Jahr das gesamte Werk Mozarts für Klavierduo beim Label Hungaroton aufnehmen wird. Nicholas verbindet seine Konzerttätigkeit mit umfangreichen Aufgaben als Senior lecturer und Fachbereichsleiter an Edinburghs Napier Universität. In diesem Rahmen unterrichtet er neben Hauptfach Klavier alle Fächer, die mit Musikperformance zu tun haben und steht den Instrumentallehrern als Supervisor zur Verfügung. Seine wohl betreuten Studenten führen ihre Studien erfolgreich in allen wichtigen britischen Musikhochschulen zu Ende Er errichtet zur Zeit einen neuen, attraktiven konzertpraxisorientierten Studiengang an der Napier Universität in Edinburgh. Außerdem bereitet Nicholas gerade seine Doktorarbeit vor, in der er die Komponisten und Theoretiker, die mit mit der Frankfurter Schule in Verbindung standen, untersuchen wird.

According to his birth certificate, he was the son of "Joseph Thalberg" and "Fortunée Stein", both from Frankfurt-am-Main, but the names in the birth certificate are now regarded as fictitious. For reasons of Thalberg's illegitimate birth, during his lifetime it was common use not to call his parents true names. François-Joseph Fétis, in the article "Thalberg" in his Biographie universelle des musiciens , therefore wrote that Thalberg was son of a Prince „M.. D..“ and a Baroness „W“. The identity of Thalberg's mother as Baroness Maria Julia Wetzler von Plankenstern was disclosed 1871 by L. R. von Kohlenegg in an article for the paper Ueber Land und Meer and 1882 by Constant von Wurzbach in the eighth volume of his Biographisches Lexikon des Kaiserthums Österreich. As excuse for their being indiscreet both authors wrote that the Baroness herself had always admitted that Sigismond Thalberg was her son.

Eugeniusz Bodo was a film director, producer and one of the most popular Polish actors and comedians of the inter-war period. A skilled singer, he became one of the icons of Polish musical comedies of the time and a symbol of Polish commercial cinema. Towards the end of that decade he also became a successful entrepreneur, a co-owner of a successful film studio, a café and a producers company. Arrested by the Soviets in the aftermath of the German and Soviet invasion of Poland, he perished in the Gulag. Bohdan Eugène Junod was born December 28, 1899. His birthplace however is not certain, sources mention Warsaw, Łódź and Geneva, Switzerland.. His mother was Jadwiga Anna Dorota née Dylewska. His father, Teodor Junod, was a Swiss citizen who moved to Russian-held Poland and in 1903 settled in Łódź. There he opened a revue-cinema Urania - the first permanent cinema theatre in that city.

He advocates the study and re-interpretation of Islamic texts, and emphasizes the heterogeneous nature of Western Muslims. Tariq Ramadan is the son of Said Ramadan and Wafa Al-Bana, who was the eldest daughter of Hassan al Banna, who in 1928 founded the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Gamal al-Banna, the liberal Muslim reformer is his great-uncle. His father was a prominent figure in the Muslim Brotherhood and was exiled by Gamal Abdul Nasser from Egypt to Switzerland, where Tariq was born. Tariq Ramadan studied Philosophy and French literature at the Masters level and holds a PhD in Arabic and Islamic studies from the University of Geneva. He also wrote a PhD dissertation on Friedrich Nietzsche, entitled Nietzsche as a Historian of Philosophy. He taught at the College de Saussure, a high school in Geneva, Switzerland, and held a lectureship in Religion and Philosophy at the University of Fribourg from 1996 to 2003.

Stephanie Grace Morgenstern is a Swiss-Canadian actress, filmmaker, and screenwriter for television and film. Born in Geneva, Switzerland and raised... in Montreal, Quebec, Morgenstern began her acting career when she was 15. She has worked extensively on stage, film, and television in both English and French. Her most widely-seen screen credits have been The Sweet Hereafter, Maelstrom, Revoir Julie and Forbidden Love.
