George Mason University

The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia was established by Roy Rosenzweig in 1994 to... research and use digital media and information technology in historical research, education, digital tools and resources, digital preservation, and outreach. Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Center for History and New Media in partnership with the American Social History Project at the City University of New York organized the September 11 Digital Archive with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. With the September 11 Digital Archive, CHNM and ASHP utilized electronic media to collect, preserve, and present the past, with a digital repository of material including more than 150,000 first-hand accounts, emails, images, and other digital materials. This project has inspired a new project, the Hurricane Digital Memory Bank, which is collecting the stories and digital artifacts related to the Hurricane Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. CHNM continues to explore methods, tools, and technologies for archiving and preserving information, data, and documents digitally.

Richard Bausch is an American novelist and short story writer, and Moss Chair of Excellence in English at the University of Memphis. He has written... eleven novels, eight short story collections, and one volume of poetry and prose. He served in the U.S. Air Force between 1966–1969, then toured the Midwest and South playing guitar and singing in a rock band, and writing poetry. Bausch holds a B.A. from George Mason University, and an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. He has taught English and Creative Writing at George Mason University and other institutions since 1980. He was previously Heritage Chair in Writing at George Mason University. His novels vary from explorations of fear and love in family life, to character-rich historical novels, most notably Rebel Powers , Good Evening Mr. & Mrs. America, and All the Ships at Sea , Hello to the Cannibals , and Peace . He published his first short story in The Atlantic in April 1983: "All the Way in Flagstaff, Arizona" was initially an 800-page novel that he cut down, calling the process "like passing a kidney stone".

Vernon Lomax Smith is professor of economics at Chapman University's Argyros School of Business and Economics and School of Law in Orange,... California, a research scholar at George Mason University Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science, and a Fellow of the Mercatus Center, all in Arlington, Virginia. Smith shared the 2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Daniel Kahneman. He is the founder and president of the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics and a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington D.C.. In 2004 Smith was honored with an honorary doctoral degree at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, the institution that named the Vernon Smith Center for Experimental Economics Research, after him. Smith was born in Wichita, Kansas where he attended Wichita North High School and Friends University. He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Caltech in 1949, an M.A. in economics from the University of Kansas in 1952, and his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1955.
