The College of Management at the Georgia Institute of Technology was established in 1934, and is consistently ranked in the top 30 management... programs in the nation. Georgia Tech's management program began in 1912 with the creation of a School of Commerce. In 1933 this school was moved to the University of Georgia during the newly created Georgia Board of Regents' decision to consolidate Georgia's system of higher education. It would later become Georgia State University. To meet the need for management training in technology, an Industrial Management degree was established in 1934, with a master's degree in the subject becoming the first professional management degree offered in the state 11 years later. The Ph.D program began in 1970. In 1989, the College of Management combined with social sciences, humanities, and economics departments to form the Ivan Allen College of Management, Policy and International Affairs. The College of Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the six colleges in the institute. Until 1990, there was no independent... college for the sciences. Before then, there had been three colleges: the College of Engineering, the College of Engineering, and COSALS, the College of Sciences and Liberal arts. As part of his restructuring plan, John Patrick Crecine reorganized the institute; he split COSALS into the College of Sciences and combined the liberal arts and management programs into the Ivan Allen College of Management and Liberal Arts. The latter would be split by G. Wayne Clough in 1998. Almost all of the undergraduate degrees offered by the College of Sciences has concentration options and/or a "business plan.

The College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology has roots stretching back to an Information Science degree established in 1964. In... 1988, Georgia Tech president John Patrick Crecine elevated the School of Information and Computer Science to become the College of Computing, making Georgia Tech the second university to do so, after Carnegie Mellon University created their School of Computer Science. Beyond using contemporary computer technology, the College of Computing also seeks new concepts and technology, with symbiotic connections to departments in other Colleges of Georgia Tech, in a holistic manner, such as combining with studies in human psychology, medical science, liberal arts, and business . As an example of the interdisciplinary symbiosis connections, the degree program for B.S. in Computational Media is offered jointly within Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, with each College fostering advancements in the other. The College of Computing also has a tradition of a symbiosis between faculty and students: since the early years, older students have been assisting professors in research.

The College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology was established in 1908 as the Department of Architecture, offering the first... four-year course of study in architecture in the Southern United States. The history of the College of Architecture spans over 100 years. The College of Architecture was named in 1975, having evolved from the School of Architecture and the Department of Architecture begun in 1908. For most of the 20th century, the Architecture curriculum was directed by masters of architecture, mostly Harvard graduates . In 1908, Georgia Tech formally began teaching architecture, when Preston A. Hopkins of Boston was appointed to teach the entering class of 20 students and organize the curriculum. The new Department of Architecture, although small, was equal in rank to other academic departments of engineering at Tech. Francis P. Smith was selected as the first department head in 1909. In 1911, the first degrees, the Bachelor of Science in Architecture, were granted. This event placed Georgia Tech among the earliest public universities in the U. S.

The School of Interactive Computing is an academic unit located within the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology . It conducts... both research and teaching activities related to interactive computing at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These activities focus on computing's interaction with users and the environment, as well as how computers impact the quality of people's lives. The School of Interactive Computing was formed in February 2007, when the former Interactive & Intelligent Computing Division was renamed and promoted to "School" status. Along with its sibling academic unit, the School of Computer Science, the School of Interactive Computing represents the first time a college-level computing program has delineated the field into separate but related bodies of study. The School of Interactive Computing offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees in several fields. These degrees are technically granted by the School's parent organization, the Georgia Tech College of Computing, and often awarded in conjunction with other academic units within Georgia Tech.

The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology has gradually evolved to contain a wide variety of liberal arts... subjects at a school known predominantly for engineering. The College is named after Ivan Allen, Jr., a Georgia Tech alumnus and former mayor of Atlanta. When the Georgia School of Technology opened, English was among the six subjects taught at the time. Modern Languages, Economics, and Geography were all taught at Tech before World War I. These subjects, however, were not grouped into a formal school of liberal arts. In 1948, the General College was created; in 1981, it was renamed the College of Sciences and Liberal Studies. In 1990, the latter college was divided, creating the Ivan Allen College of Management, Policy, & International Affairs. In 1998, the School of Management was spun off into its own college, leaving the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. It is now considered a model example of university education that pairs technical ability with liberal arts knowledge.

Georgia Tech Lorraine is a campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Metz, France and is part of Georgia Tech's International Plan. GTL... offers undergraduate and graduate programs in electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science. Georgia Tech Lorraine is fully integrated into French and American structures—it is an affiliate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and it is incorporated under French law as a non-profit organization . GTL is also home to a strong sponsored research program through the Georgia Tech – CNRS Unité Mixte Internationale , an international joint laboratory between the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, and the French National Centre for Scientific Research in the area of advanced materials, secured networks, and robotics. Georgia Tech-Lorraine was established as Georgia Institute of Technology's first international campus in 1990. Initially offering a graduate program in electrical and computer engineering, GTL has expanded its graduate program to include degree programs in mechanical engineering and computer science.

Comer Vann Woodward was a preeminent American historian focusing primarily on the American South and race relations. He was considered, along with... Richard Hofstadter and Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., to be one of the most influential historians of the postwar era, 1940s-1970s, both by scholars and by the general public. He was long a supporter of the approach of Charles A. Beard, stressing the influence of unseen economic motivations in politics. Stylistically, he was a master of irony and counterpoint. C. Vann Woodward was born in Vanndale, a town named after his mother's family and the county seat from 1886-1903. It was in Cross County in eastern Arkansas. Mostafa A. El-Sayed is an Egyptian-American chemical physicist, a leading nanoscience researcher, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and... a US National Medal of Science laureate. He is also known for the spectroscopy rule named after him, the El-Sayed rule. He earned his B.Sc. from Ain Shams University Faculty of Science in the 1953. El-Sayed earned his doctoral degree from Florida State University working with Michael Kasha, the last student of the legendary G. N. Lewis . He spent time as a researcher at Harvard University, Yale University and the California Institute of Technology before joining the faculty of the University of California at Los Angeles in 1961. He is currently the Julius Brown Chair and Regents Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He heads the Laser Dynamics Lab there. El-Sayed is a former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Physical Chemistry. El-Sayed and his research group has contributed to many important areas of physical and materials chemistry research.

Thomas Lux is an American poet. Thomas Lux was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, son of a milkman and a Sears & Roebuck switchboard operator,... neither of whom graduated from high school. Lux was raised in Massachusetts on a dairy farm. He was, according to those who knew him in high school, very good at baseball, basketball and golf. Classmates also recall that he had a " Terrific sense of humor. " He graduated from Emerson College in Boston, where he was also poet in residence from 1972-1975. His first book — Memory's Handgrenade — was published shortly after. Since 1975, Lux has been a member of the writing faculty at Sarah Lawrence College. Lux is also a core faculty member of the Warren Wilson M.F.A. Program for Writers. In 1996 he was a visiting professor at University of California, Irvine. A former Guggenheim Fellow and three times a recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Lux received, in 1995, the $50,000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award for his sixth collection, Split Horizons. His poems are featured in American Alphabets: 25 Contemporary Poets and many other anthologies.

Nancy Ann Lynch is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the NEC Professor of Software Science and Engineering in the... EECS department and heads the Theory of Distributed Systems research group at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She is the author of numerous research articles about distributed algorithms and impossibility results, and about formal modeling and validation of distributed systems. She is the author of the graduate textbook "Distributed Algorithms". She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and an ACM Fellow. Lynch's academic training was in mathematics, at Brooklyn College and MIT, where she received her Ph.D. in 1972. She served on the math and computer science faculty at several other universities, including Tufts University, the University of Southern California and Georgia Tech, prior to joining the MIT faculty in 1982. Since then, she has been working on applying mathematics to the tasks of understanding and constructing complex distributed systems.
