Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band, formed in Aston, Birmingham in 1969 by Ozzy Osbourne , Tony Iommi , Geezer Butler , and Bill Ward .... The band has since experienced multiple line-up changes, with Tony Iommi the only constant presence in the band through the years. A total of 22 musicians have at one time been members of Black Sabbath. Originally formed in 1968 as a heavy blues rock band named Earth and renamed to Black Sabbath in 1969, the band began incorporating occult- and horror-inspired lyrics with tuned-down guitars and achieving multiple platinum records in the 1970s. Despite an association with occult and horror themes, Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, the dangers of drug abuse and the often apocalyptic prophesies of the horrors of war. Black Sabbath are cited, along with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, as pioneers of heavy metal. The band helped define the genre with releases such as quadruple-platinum Paranoid, released in 1970.

Trapeze were an English rock band formed in March 1969, by vocalist John Jones and guitarist/keyboardist Terry Rowley , with guitarist Mel Galley,... singer/bassist Glenn Hughes, and drummer Dave Holland. The band had a fairly fluid line up, finally dissolving in 1994, and although they never found commercial success themselves, several members went on to join better known bands, including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, and Uriah Heep. The core and most familiar line-up of the band was Glenn Hughes, Mel Galley, and Dave Holland. After Glenn Hughes' departure in June 1973, Galley and Holland kept the band together with constantly varying members until 1979, when Holland went on to join Judas Priest. Holland tried to revive the band in 1990, after leaving Priest, but the band finally broke up in 1994. Their first three albums remain their best known and most commercially successful. Hughes Turner Project was a musical project formed in the 2001 by bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes and guitarist/vocalist Joe Lynn Turner . Long time... friends Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner had first planned to release an album together in 1989, the two got together and wrote some demos, but nothing ended up being released from these sessions. In 2000 Hughes toured Japan with Turner, followed by joint appearances during the Voices of Classic Rock tour in 2001. During this time the two decided to start work on a new collaboration. The duo released their first album in February 2002, it was simply called HTP. The album featured Hughes’ regular guitarist JJ Marsh, who contributed to much of the song-writing. There were also contributions drummer Shane Galaas and keyboardist Vince DiCola as well as guest guitarists John Sykes, Paul Gilbert and Akira Kajiyama.

SPV GmbH is an independent German record label. Founded on January 1, 1984, it has slowly grown to be one of the largest independent distributors and record labels worldwide. It also has several sublabels that it produces and distributes, including the heavy metal labels Steamhammer, Synthetic... Symphony, Oblivion, SPV Recordings/SPV America and Audiopharm. SPV's most successful artists include Sepultura, Kreator, Klaus Schulze, Rhapsody of Fire, Sodom, Evildead, Angra, Eric Burdon, Blackmore's Night, Whitesnake, Motörhead, Doro, Helloween, Kamelot, Iced Earth, Moonspell, Saxon, Monster Magnet, Type O Negative, Skinny Puppy and Judas Priest. The managing partner, Manfred Schütz, decided to submit an application to commence insolvency proceedings on 25 May 2009 – roughly equivalent to Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the USA. In response to this, on 27 May 2009, the District Court of Hannover appointed the attorney Manuel Sack as the provisional insolvency administrator.

Frontiers Records is an Italian record label, predominantly producing melodic rock. It was formed in 1996 by Serafino Perugino and is based in Naples, Italy. Perugino started working in the music industry in 1996, as Italian distributor for numerous artists in the field of melodic rock and earned... an excellent reputation in the field, so that he could soon set up an independent label. 1998 saw the birth of Frontiers Records. The label was launched with the goal of producing high quality products in the field of melodic rock offering. The first release of the new label was the double live album Never Say Goodbye by the British hard rock group Ten. In addition to the commitment of Frontiers Records to manage new artists in the genre the label roster is full of very well known bands and artists, such as Winger, Styx, Toto, Yes, Joe Lynn Turner, Journey, Thunder, Survivor, Glenn Hughes, House of Lords and Whitesnake. Frontiers Records in December 2010 completed sales contract with EMI Music for the U.S. and Canada distribution, which became effective from January 2011.

Rock music is a genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. Typically, rock is song-based music with a 4/4 beat utilizing a verse-chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse and common musical characteristics are difficult to define. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.

Blues is the name given to both a musical form and a music genre that originated in African-American communities of primarily the "Deep South" of the... United States at the end of the 19th century from spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts and chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads. The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll is characterized by specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues chord progression is the most common. The blue notes that, for expressive purposes are sung or played flattened or gradually bent in relation to the pitch of the major scale, are also an important part of the sound. The blues genre is based on the blues form but possesses other characteristics such as specific lyrics, bass lines and instruments. Blues can be subdivided into several subgenres ranging from country to urban blues that were more or less popular during different periods of the 20th century. Best known are the Delta, Piedmont, Jump and Chicago blues styles.
