Goleta

Goleta Depot is a train station building in Goleta, California. It was constructed by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1901, as part of the... completion of the Coast Route linking Los Angeles and San Francisco . Goleta Depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources. Southern Pacific closed its Goleta station in the 1970s, leaving Goleta Depot closed and abandoned. Eventually, Goleta Beautiful, a civic organization, obtained rights to the building and on Nov. 18-19, 1981, Goleta Depot was moved to nearby Lake Los Carneros County Park. There, it was rehabilitated and restored, reopening in Oct. 1982, as a museum and home to three local nonprofit organizations, the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce, Institute for American Research and Santa Barbara Audubon Society . Today, Goleta Depot is the centerpiece of the South Coast Railroad Museum .

Derrick William Plourde was a drummer who was born in Goleta, California. Active between 1989 and his unexpected death in 2005, he was a former... member of Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut, Jaws, The Ataris, Mad Caddies, Rich Kids on LSD, and others. Suspected as bipolar and battling drug addiction, Derrick committed suicide by gunshot on March 30, 2005. His former band, Lagwagon, produced a tribute album titled Resolve in his honor. He is also mentioned in the NOFX song "Doornails", on their Wolves in Wolves' Clothing album. He also drummed for Mad Caddies in Rock The Plank. The Mad Caddies song Don't Go is possibly a tribute to him.
