The Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical has been awarded since 1975. The award had several minor name changes. From 1975 to 1977 the award was known as Best Producer of the Year. From 1978 to 1980, 1982 to 1983, 1990, and 1994 to 1997 it was awarded as Producer of the Year. In 1981, 1984 to 1989, and 1991 to 1993 it was awarded as Producer of the Year (Non-Classical). Since 1998 it has been awarded as Producer of the Year, Non-Classical and since 1980 this award has been presented alongside an award for Producer of the Year, Classical.
