Green Day

Lookout Records was an independent record label based in Berkeley, California focusing on punk rock. Larry Livermore and David Hayes formed the label in 1987. From the start, Lookout released punk rock records, but over time expanded its scope to include various types of pop rock, reggae fusion,... acoustic rock, pop punk, and indie rock. Former Lookout bands that have since achieved major label success include Green Day and The Donnas. Lookout became famous for releasing albums that featured a very distinctive pop punk sound including bands such as Screeching Weasel, The Mr T Experience, The Queers, Green Day, Sweet Baby, Squirtgun, The Wanna-Bes and others. In recent years, a number of Lookout recording artists have ended their dealings with the label, rescinding their master rights from the label and re-issuing albums on other labels. These bands have cited various reasons including non-renewal of licensing agreements, distribution problems, and breach of contract over unpaid royalties.

Skene! Records was a DIY punk rock record label founded in Connecticut then later based in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the late 1980s and early 1990s. An early album release was Better Yet Connecticut Hardcore; featuring bands such as Bug Gulp, Fallback, Freedom of Choice, Forced Reality and Scooter... X. The label's founder also promoted local Punk shows in central Connecticut. The most infamous of which being 'the greatest show that never happened'; showcased at the New Britain VFW hall and featuring bands such as Big Gulp and Fallback. Shortly after the show began, during Fallback's set, a fight broke out and the show was forcibly shut down by the New Britain Police department; some of the footage was caught on a video tape that seems to have been lost. The label later released records from such bands as Green Day, Trenchmouth, Shades Apart, Slap Of Reality, Candy Machine, Bob Evans , Lifter Puller, Everready, Fuel , Angry Son, Go!, Phleg Camp, Jawbreaker, Crimpshrine, Dog Tired, The Deviators and others, and was considered a contemporary of No Idea Records, Very Small Records, and Lookout! Records. The label existed at least until 1995.

Epitaph Records is a Hollywood, California based independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. The label was originally "just a logo and a P.O. box" created in the 1980s for the purpose of selling Bad Religion records, but has evolved into a large independent record... label. Gurewitz took the name from a King Crimson song of the same name. Throughout the 80s and 90s most of the bands on Epitaph were punk and pop punk groups, while there are many post-hardcore and emo bands signed to the label too. A large portion of the record label, known as Hellcat Records, is owned by Tim Armstrong, frontman of the punk rock band Rancid. Several sister-labels also exist, such as ANTI-, Burning Heart Records, Fat Possum Records, Hellcat Records and Heart & Skull Records that have signed other types of bands. Brett Gurewitz formed Epitaph Records as a vehicle for releases by his band Bad Religion. Its first release for the label was Bad Religion's 1981 self-titled EP, followed by their debut How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, which was also the label's first full-length release.
