The Estadio Nacional Mateo Flores is a multi-use national stadium in Guatemala City, the largest in Guatemala. It was built in 1948, to host the... Central American and Caribbean Games in 1950, and was renamed after long-distance runner Mateo Flores, winner of the 1952 Boston Marathon. It has a capacity of 30,000 seats. Used mostly for football matches, the stadium has hosted the majority of the home matches of the Guatemala national football team throughout its history, and is the home of local football club Municipal . The venue is operated by the Confederación Deportiva Autónoma de Guatemala . One of the worst disasters ever to occur in a sports venue took place at the stadium in 1996, when 83 people were killed because of a human avalanche on the stands. The grass field of the Mateo Flores is surrounded by an eight-lane athletic track, which originally was made of sand, and later remodeled to have a synthetic tartan surface.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara , commonly known as el Che or simply Che, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, intellectual, guerrilla... leader, diplomat and military theorist. A major figure of the Cuban Revolution, his stylized visage has become a ubiquitous countercultural symbol of rebellion and global insignia within popular culture. As a young medical student, Guevara traveled throughout Latin America and was radically transformed by the endemic poverty and alienation he witnessed. His experiences and observations during these trips led him to conclude that the region's ingrained economic inequalities were an intrinsic result of capitalism, monopolism, neocolonialism, and imperialism, with the only remedy being world revolution. This belief prompted his involvement in Guatemala's social reforms under President Jacobo Arbenz, whose eventual CIA-assisted overthrow solidified Guevara's political ideology. Later, while living in Mexico City, he met Raúl and Fidel Castro, joined their 26th of July Movement, and sailed to Cuba aboard the yacht, Granma, with the intention of overthrowing U.S.

Shery is a Guatemalan Latin pop singer and songwriter . She has recorded songs in Spanish and Italian, and shared stage with such international... superstars as Chayanne, Cristian Castro, Manuel Mijares, Miguel Bosé, Enrique Iglesias and Aleks Syntek. Two of her original compositions have been finalists in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, in New York. "El amor es un fantasma" , her first album, was released in January 2008 after two and a half years of production. The CD is named after the first song ever written by the artist, which debuted in radio with 26 straight weeks in the Top 40 in her natal Guatemala in 2005. The album features 11 original songs written by Shery, a song written by legendary Spanish songwriter José Luis Perales, as well as duets with Italian producer / songwriter Francesco Sondelli, Guatemalan singer Jorge "El Bardo" and another with Cuban-American vocalist Daniel René, former member of Latin Pop band Menudo / MDO.
