Church of Our Lady Immaculate is a Roman Catholic church located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada designed by Joseph Connolly. It is considered Connolly's... best work. To serve a Roman Catholic parish of predominantly German settlers this Gothic style-church was built between 1875 and 1883. The monumental church contains decorative carving and stained glass executed by skilled craftsmen. The church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990. When John Galt founded Guelph, Ontario on April 23, 1827, he allocated the highest point in the centre of the newly founded town to Roman Catholics as a compliment to his friend, Bishop Alexander Macdonell, who had given him advice in the formation of the Canada Company. A road was also later cleared leading up to the hill and named after the Bishop, called Macdonell Street. According to the Guelph Public Library archives, John Galt, founder of Guelph, wrote the following statement in the deed transferring the land on which the Church of Our Lady would one day stand: "On this hill would one day rise a church to rival St. Peter's in Rome.

Ned Sparks was a Canadian-born character actor. Sparks was well known for his deadpan expression and deep, gravelly voice. Born Edward Arthur... Sparkman in Guelph, Ontario, Sparks left home at age 16 where he attempted to work as a gold prospector on the Klondike Gold Rush. After running out of money, he won a spot as a singer on a traveling musical company's tour. At age 19, he returned to Canada where he briefly attended a Toronto seminary. After leaving the seminary, he worked for the railroad and worked in theater in Toronto. In 1907, he left Toronto to try his hand in the Broadway theatre in New York City. While working on Broadway, Sparks developed his trademark deadpan expression while portraying the role of a desk clerk in the play Little Miss Brown. His success on the stage soon caught the attention of MGM's Louis B. Mayer who signed Sparks to a six picture deal. Sparks began appearing in numerous silent films before finally making his "talkie" debut in the 1928 film The Big Noise. In the 1930s, Sparks became known for portraying dour-faced, sarcastic, cigar-chomping characters.

Jim Guthrie is a Canadian singer-songwriter. He has recorded both as a solo artist and as a member of the bands Islands, Royal City and Human... Highway. He was born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, and currently lives in Toronto. Guthrie first made a name for himself by releasing a series of self-produced cassettes, and subsequently released albums on Three Gut Records. He was nominated for a Juno Award for his album Now, More Than Ever. Jim Guthrie Vs. The Haymakers was a limited release split EP released in 2003, featuring four songs by each artist. Jim Guthrie contributed four instrumentals, created using the Sony PlayStation MTV Music Generator, while Haymakers contributed three songs which would eventually be released on their album II, and one song which was exclusive to the Jim Guthrie Vs. The Haymakers release. His song “Who Needs What”, from the 1999 album A Thousand Songs, was covered by the indie pop band Tullycraft on their 2002 album Beat, Surf, Fun. Since the 1990s he has collaborated with Guelph-based hip-hop artist Noah23 on numerous projects, including an appearance on his 2008 album Rock Paper Scissors.

Shaun Benson is a Canadian actor. Benson was born in Guelph, Ontario. He is the son of Eugene Benson, an English professor and a prolific novelist,... playwright and librettist. He summered at YMCA Camp Kitchikewana on Beausoleil Island where he held the position of Music Coordinator and later held the esteemed position of Music Director . Highlights of his Kitchi career include directing Les Misérables and a memorable street fight with Perry "Hound-Dog" Grassic. Benson played the role of Dr. Steven Lars Webber on the soap opera General Hospital from 2004 to 2005. Shaun Benson took on the role of Dr. Steven Webber, formerly Steven Lars, in September 2004. Shaun began studying the arts from a very young age, including piano, ballet and modern dance. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a bachelor of science in chemistry/biochemistry, Shaun decided to become an actor and trained at the George Brown College Theater School in Toronto. He went on to appear in numerous acclaimed theater productions in and around Toronto.

Gavin Smith is a Canadian professional poker player who won the World Poker Tour's Season IV Mirage Poker Showdown Championship event and the WPT... Season IV Player of the Year award in 2005, then at the 2010 World Series of Poker he won the $2,500 Mixed Hold'em event along with his first bracelet. Smith learned how to play cards by playing cribbage and rummy with his father. He started playing poker at the age of 26, playing mixed games with co-workers. He became a poker dealer in 1996 and set up his own poker club in 1998. He has also worked as a taxi driver and on a golf course. Smith first came to note by winning tournaments in no limit Texas hold 'em and seven card stud in the 1999 and 2000 World Poker Finals at Foxwoods Resort Casino. In May 2005 he won the first prize of $1,128,278 in the World Poker Tour Mirage Poker Showdown in Las Vegas, defeating Ted Forrest in the final heads-up confrontation. In October 2005 he made the WPT final table again in the 2nd Annual Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, where he finished 3rd, behind Minh Ly and Dan Harrington.

Zoë Keating is a Canadian-born cellist and composer based in San Francisco, California. In her solo performances and recordings , she uses live... electronic sampling and repetition in order to layer the sound of her cello, creating rhythmically dense musical structures. Zoë's self-produced album One Cello x 16: Natoma has four times made it to #1 on the iTunes classical charts. Keating is the recipient of a 2009 Performing Arts grant from the Creative Capital Foundation. Keating also served from 2002 to 2006 as second chair cellist in the cello rock band Rasputina. She is featured on Amanda Palmer's debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer. In January 2011, Keating won the award for Contemporary Classical Album from The 10th Annual Independent Music Awards. Keating was born in Guelph, Ontario on February 2, 1972 to an English mother and an American father. She began playing the cello at the age of eight and attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York.
