Veith House is a neighborhood house whose mission is to meet the needs of children, individuals and families, with empowerment as an ever present... goal. It is located at 3115 Veith St in the North End of the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is just down the hill from one of Halifax's landmarks, The Hydrostone. Veith House's history dates back to the 1800s. The Halifax Protestant Orphanage was in existence from 1857 - 1969. The orphanage was founded by Reverend Robert Fitzgerald Uniacke in 1857 and was previously located on North Park Street. This became home to a countless number of children, both girls and boys. The orphanage was relocated to Veith Street where it was destroyed in the Halifax Explosion in 1917, claiming the lives of both children and staff. Of the 21 people present in the building at the time of the explosion, only six survived. At this site, a monument has been erected commemorating the lives of the children and staff members lost in the disaster. Post-explosion, the orphanage was rebuilt, but by 1969 the orphanage closed its doors.

Fort George is a National Historic Site in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and was established during Father Le Loutre's War. A series of four... different defensive fortifications have occupied the summit of Citadel Hill since this time, with the construction and levelling resulting in the summit of the hill being dropped by ten to twelve metres. The first fort was simply a small redoubt which stood near the summit with a flagstaff and guardhouse. The first fort was part of the western perimeter wall for the old city which was protected by five stockaded forts. The others were Horsemans Fort, Cornwallis Fort, Fort Lutrell and Grenadier Fort. No traces of any regular or permanent fortification appear on Citadel Hill until the commencement of the American Revolution. The establishment of Halifax marked the beginning of Father Le Loutre's War. The war began when Edward Cornwallis arrived to establish Halifax with 13 transports and a sloop of war on June 21, 1749.

Pier 21, a former ocean liner terminal, is Canada's National Museum of Immigration in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It operated as an ocean liner terminal... and immigration shed from 1928 to 1971 and became an immigration museum in 1999. Pier 21 is Canada's last remaining ocean immigration shed. The facility is often compared to Ellis Island, although this term is also used to describe the immigration station at Grosse Isle, Quebec. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1996, and was named a National Museum of Canada in 2009. Located in Halifax's South End in the Halifax Ocean Terminals, Pier 21 was used as a passenger terminal for trans-Atlantic ocean liners from 1928 until 1971. It replaced an early immigration facility at Halifax's Pier 2 in the Halifax's North End. Liners docked at a long seawall wharf divided into Piers 20, 21, 22 and 23. The immigration facilities were located at Pier 21, although the term is often used to describe all the Ocean Terminal piers. Pier 21 had a railway booking office and passenger train sidings for special immigration trains as well as an overhead walkway to the Halifax, Nova Scotia railway station.

The Bennett Daniel Fultz House is one of the earliest houses in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia and the community's only museum. It is located on its... original land, on the corner of the "Great Roads" leading from Halifax to Truro and to the Annapolis Valley. Lower Sackville was officially created with Fort Sackville in 1749, under Captain John Gorham. The first land grant in the area was given to Colonel Joseph Scott, of the Scott Manor House, located in what is now Bedford. The Manor was completed in the 1770s. The history of the Fultz Family begins in 1751, when a Johann Fultz left Germany, boarded the Speedwell, and traveled to Halifax. He then made his way to Louisbourg. Before its fall in 1758, Johann Fultz, and his wife, whom he married while in Nova Scotia, Elizabeth, brought two children into the world. One of them, Anthony Fultz, petitioned the Crown in 1809 for land in Sackville after having received some from his father's will in 1801. In 1812 Anthony was successful, and purchased 150 acres of land.

Barbara Fris is a Canadian soprano and actress who performs as an opera singer, concert artist, and recitalist. She specializes in opera and... classical symphonic works for voice, having performed across Canada, in Europe and the United States where she also has sung a wide range of works that include operettas, musical theatre, light classics, lieder, French mélodie, and art songs. Fris was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and began her musical studies at the Nova Scotia Teacher's College , where she obtained an Associate of Education Diploma and Licentiate as an Early Childhood Music Specialist . She later graduated from Dalhousie University, Faculty of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Performance and the University of Toronto Opera Division , where she obtained a Diploma in Opera Performance as a scholarship student of the noted Dutch baritone, Bernard Diamant and with the support of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust and Canada Council. Ms. Fris completed further post-graduate work at the Accademia dei Rozzi, under Maestro Walter Baracchi, former principal coach and conductor at Teatro alla Scala di Milano.

Heather Martin born on November 10, 1963 in Halifax, Nova Scotia is a Canadian curler. She currently plays lead rocks for Stacie Devereaux out of the... Bally Haly Golf & Curling Club in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Martin’s first Scotties appearance was in 1991, where she was an alternate for Cathy Cunningham. The team would finish 2-9 in round robin play. She would return to the Scott for four consecutive years, from 1994-1997 playing lead for Laura Phillips. From 1994-1996 the team would not make the playoffs, however, at the 1997 Scott Tournament of Hearts, they would finish round robin play with a 7-4 record advancing as far as the semi final, where they would lose to Ontario’s Alison Goring. She would return to the Scott in 2002, 2003 and 2004, this time playing for lead for Cathy Cunningham. At the 2003 Scott Tournament of Hearts, the team would finish round robin play with a 6-5 record, which was enough to secure 4th place. They would go on to win the 3-4 page play off game, the semi final, but would end up losing the final to Colleen Jones. Starting in the 2009-2010 season Martin would join forces with Canadian Junior Champion Stacie Devereaux, once again playing lead stones.

Sampson appeared in Season 3 of Supernatural as the character Lisa Braedon , she appeared in the episode The Kids Are Alright. She reprised the role for the episode Dream a Little Dream of Me after showrunner Eric Kripke could not get the rights to use the character Jason Voorhes. Sampson's character was brought back in Season 5 at the last minute due to the show being renewed for a sixth season, she appeared in the episode 99 problems and Swan Song. Sampson has thus far appeared in 11 episodes of the current series of the show.

Anthony Sherwood is an award-winning Canadian actor, producer and director. Sherwood's mother was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and his father was... born in Kingston, Jamaica. Anthony’s mother was a fifth generation Canadian whose ancestors escaped to Canada using the "underground railroad" from Virginia. Sherwood's grandmother was an accomplished musician and music teacher, his mother was a singer, and his aunt was Portia White, Canada’s first and most famous Black opera singer and one of Nova Scotia’s most cherished icons. Sherwood’s family moved to Montreal where he commenced an eight-year career as a R&B singer before switching focus to acting. Sherwood began his acting career on stage and started in musical theatre. He starred in such musicals as Ain't Misbehavin', Cabaret, Razz ‘M Jazz, and The Music Man and in 2009 he performed in the hit musical Dream Girls at the Grand Theatre in London. Sherwood eventually made the transition to film and began acting in several Canadian and American feature films.
