The Chilehaus is a ten-story office building in Hamburg, Germany. It is an exceptional example of the 1920s Brick Expressionism style of... architecture. This large angular building is located on a site of approximately 6,000m² spanning the Fischertwiete Street in Hamburg. The Chilehaus building is famed for its top, which is reminiscent of a ship's prow, and the facades, which meet at a very sharp angle at the corner of the Pumpen and Niedernstrasse. The best view of the building is from the east. Because of the accentuated vertical elements and the recessed upper stories, as well as the curved facade on the Pumpen street, the building has, despite its enormous size, a touch of lightness. The building has a reinforced concrete structure and has been built with the use of 4.8 million dark Oldenburg bricks. The building is constructed on very difficult terrain, so to gain stability it was necessary to build on 16-meter-deep reinforced-concrete pilings.

The Hamburger Kunsthalle is an art museum in Hamburg, Germany. The art museum focuses on painting in Hamburg in the 14th century, paintings by Dutch... and Flemish artists of the 16th and 17th centuries, French and German paintings of the 19th century, modern, and contemporary art. It consists of three connected buildings located in the city center, near the Central Station and the Binnenalster lake. The first museum was built from 1863 to 1869 by architects Georg Theodor Schirrmacher and Hermann von der Hude. Architect Fritz Schumacher designed the second building, erected in 1919. Planned and constructed from 1976 until 1997, the Galerie der Gegenwart was built by O. M. Ungers. The museum houses an important collection of painting from the 19th century with works from Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth, Philipp Otto Runge, Caspar David Friedrich, Adolf Menzel. The Gallerie der Gegenwart is devoted to modern arts from the early 20th century, e.g. Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and Max Beckmann, and art after 1945. One painting by the Kunsthalle was involved in the Frankfurt art theft of 1994.

Rickmer Rickmers is a sailing ship permanently moored as a museum ship in Hamburg, near the Cap San Diego. Rickmer Clasen Rickmers, was a... Bremerhaven shipbuilder and Willi Rickmer Rickmers, led a Soviet-German expedition to the Pamirs in 1928. The Rickmer Rickmers was built in 1896 by the Rickmers shipyard in Bremerhaven, and was first used on the Hong Kong route carrying rice and bamboo. In 1912 she was bought by Carl Christian Krabbenhöft, renamed Max, and transferred to the Hamburg - Chile route. In World War I the Max was captured by the Government of Portugal, in Horta harbour and loaned to the United Kingdom as a war aid. For the remainder of the war the ship sailed under the Union Jack, as the Flores. After World War I she was returned to the Portuguese Government, becoming a Portuguese Navy training ship and was once more renamed, as NRP Sagres . In 1958, she won the Tall Ships' Race.

The Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg is a private museum in the HafenCity quarter of Hamburg, Germany. The museum houses Peter Tamm's... collection of model ships, construction plans, uniforms, and maritime art, amounting to over 40,000 items and more than one million photographs. It opened in a former warehouse in 2008. The private collection was started in 1934 by Peter Tamm—former chairman of the board of the Axel Springer AG—when Tamm was six years old. As Tamm retold the history, the initial event was when his mother presented him his first model ship. Prior to the opening in the HafenCity, the collection was called "Wissenschaftliches Institut für Schifffahrts- und Marinegeschichte" and located in a mansion at the Elbchaussee street and only open by appointment. In 2004 the Hamburg Parliament approved a grant for a new museum in the HafenCity quarter unanimously, with an abstention from voting by the GAL party parliamentary group. On 25 June 2008, the museum was opened by the German president Horst Köhler.

Catharina "Nina" Hagen is a German singer and occasional actress. Nina Hagen was born in the former East Berlin, East Germany, the daughter of Hans... Hagen , a scriptwriter, and Eva-Maria Hagen , an actress and singer. Her paternal grandfather died in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp . Her parents divorced when she was two years old, and growing up she saw her father infrequently. At age four, she began to study ballet, and was considered an opera prodigy by the time she was nine. When Hagen was 11, her mother married Wolf Biermann, an anti-establishment singer-songwriter. Biermann's political views later influenced young Hagen. Hagen left school at age sixteen, and went to Poland, where she began her career. After that, she returned to Germany and joined the cover band Fritzens Dampferband . She added songs by Janis Joplin and Tina Turner to the "allowable" set lists during shows.

Matthias Paul, better known by his stage name Paul van Dyk is a German Grammy Award-winning Electronic Dance Music DJ, musician and record producer.... One of the first true Superstar DJs, Paul van Dyk was one of the first artists to receive a Grammy nomination in the newly added category of Best Dance/Electronic album for his 2004 release Reflections. He was named the World's No. 1 DJ in both 2005 and 2006, something less than a handful of DJs have ever achieved. Paul van Dyk is the only DJ to hold a spot in the World's Top 10 DJs since 1998. He is also the first DJ to be named No. 1 by Mixmag in 2005. As of 2007, he has sold over 4.5 million albums worldwide. A trance producer starting in the early 1990s, Paul quickly achieved popularity with his remix of "Love Stimulation" by Humate under the record label MFS in 1993, and with his hit single, "For an Angel", but in recent times he no longer likes to describe his music as trance, but rather simply as electronic dance music. Paul van Dyk grew up in East Berlin in a single parent household; his father left him and his mother when he was four years old.

Alexander Duszat, better known under the nickname Elton, is a German television host and comedian. He was born on 2 April 1971 in West Berlin, but... grew up and went to the school in Hamburg. He finished his traineeship as a television and radio technician. Later he hosted several shows for the local television channel Hamburg 1, where he first appeared under the nickname Elton, which was given to him due to a reportedly similar appearance to Elton John. In February 2001 he was hired by the popular German entertainer Stefan Raab as an intern and sidekick for his television show TV total on ProSieben. In December 2001 he started to host his own show Elton.tv, which was produced by Raab's company Raab TV and canceled in March 2003. Along with Sonya Kraus, he also hosted the reality shows Die Alm in July 2004 and Die Burg in January 2005. Since November 2003 Elton has been married to Yvonne with whom he has a son named Niklas. When Stefan Raab boxed Regina Halmich in spring 2007, Elton promised to participate at the New York City Marathon in case Raab should stand more than 5 rounds.

Gabriele Susanne Kerner , better known by her stage name Nena, is a German singer and actress. She rose to international fame in 1983 with the New... German Wave song "99 Luftballons". In 1984, she re-recorded this song in English as "99 Red Balloons". Nena was also the name of the band with whom she released the song. With the re-recording and subsequent release of some of her old songs, her career re-emerged in 2002. In 2007, she co-founded the school "Neue Schule Hamburg". Gabriele Susanne Kerner was born on 24 March 1960 in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany, while her family lived in the nearby town of Breckerfeld. She spent the earliest part of her childhood in Breckerfeld and later lived in Hagen. She acquired her nickname, based on the Spanish word "nena" , or "little girl", at the age of three, while on a vacation to Spain with her parents. In 1977 she left high school before graduation, and in the three following years she was trained as a goldsmith. Her musical career began in the summer of 1979 when guitarist Rainer Kitzmann offered her a position as the lead singer in his band, The Stripes.

Frank Bossert is a composer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and ever-restless creative spirit from the far north of Germany. Having grown... up in Hamburg, he has been working on his project „EUREKA” in his studio for more than a decade now. Under this name Frank has been producing CDs, ranging among the best within this genre, since 1997. Highlights from his albums can be found on major-label compilations next to songs by Clannad, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Mike Oldfield and other celtic-music celebrities. The beginning stage of EUREKA albums takes place in the microcosm of the studio, with Frank playing and recording most of the instruments, from his striking guitar to drums, by himself. It is only during the final stage of a CD production when guest musicians join in, adding yet another level with their rather exotic instruments and vocal performances. The current studio work „The Compass Rose”, too, was a collaboration of nearly a dozen different musicians. This way, musical adventures arise, when flamenco guitars meet celtic flutes, Landsknecht drums arrange grooving races and keyboards melt with oriental percussion instruments, forming soundscapes rarely ever heard before. But the most important instrument in EUREKA is the guitar. Frank’s colourful, lyrical playing is the key to the unmistakable sound of EUREKA. At the moment Frank is working on the most exciting project his career has seen so far – a concept album "Shackleton's Voyage" dealing with Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic voyage on the “Endurance”, which is released June 5th, 2009.

Dagmar Krause is a German singer, best known for her work with avant-rock groups like Slapp Happy, Henry Cow and Art Bears. She is also noted for... her coverage of songs by Bertolt Brecht, Kurt Weill and Hanns Eisler. Her unusual singing style makes her voice instantly recognisable and has defined the sound of many of the bands with whom she has worked. Dagmar Krause was born in Hamburg, Germany on 4 June 1950. She began her professional career at the age of 14 as a singer in Hamburg clubs on the Reeperbahn. In 1968 she was invited to join The City Preachers, a contemporary folk/protest she once half-jokingly described as a German version of The Mamas & the Papas. She contributed vocals to their 1968 album Der Kürbis, das Transportproblem und die Traumtänzer , a spin-off from a German TV show. The City Preachers broke up in 1969, but their lead singer Inga Rumpf and Krause reunited in 1970 to record I.D. Company, the name of a studio project where each vocalist sung lead on and determined the direction of one side of the LP .

Emil Georg Conrad von Sauer was a notable German composer, pianist, score editor, and music teacher. He was a pupil of Franz Liszt and one of the... most distinguished pianists of his generation. Josef Hofmann called von Sauer "a truly great virtuoso." Martin Krause, another Liszt pupil, called von Sauer "the legitimate heir of Liszt; he has more of his charm and geniality than any other Liszt pupil." Sauer was born in Hamburg, Germany on October 8, 1862 and studied with Nikolai Rubinstein at the Moscow Conservatory between 1879 and 1881. On an 1884 visit to Italy he met the Countess von Sayn-Wittgenstein, who recommended him to her former paramour, Franz Liszt. He went on to study with Liszt for two years, but did not for some time consider himself a Liszt pupil. In an 1895 interview, he even denied it: "It is not correct to regard me as a pupil of Liszt, though I stayed with him for a few months. He was then very old, and could not teach me much. My chief teacher has been, undoubtedly, Nicholas Rubinstein." In his later years, however, Sauer realized the influence of Liszt on himself and on music in general.

Nina Bott is a German actress. Between August 1997 and September 2005 she played Cora Hinze Moreno on the popular German soap opera Gute Zeiten,... schlechte Zeiten. She then appeared in the period drama Unter den Linden – Das Haus Gravenhorst. Nina Bott then joined the soap opera Alles was zählt in 2008 as Celine Laffort. She stayed with the show for more than two years, before leaving with co-star Norman Kalle. In March 2011, it was announced that Bott had joined her third soap opera, Verbotene Liebe. She is planned to play the recast of Julia von Anstetten, one of the soap's original characters. Bott is set to appear for the first time on-screen in June 2011. Her story takes place on location in Mallorca. In 2002, she appeared on the cover of the February issue of Playboy magazine's German edition. She made a second appearance in Playboy in the February 2012 issue. Together with Leonie Lutz, she co-wrote a book about pregnancy, with Germany-related advice, called Generation Mami. In 1995, Bott won the Hamburg windsurfing championship.

Eva Felicitas Habermann is a German actress who has appeared in numerous films and TV series. She is best known for playing the role of Zev... Bellringer in the television series Lexx. She was succeeded in her role by Xenia Seeberg. While studying for her Senior High School diploma , Eva received singing and dancing lessons. Soon after graduation, she obtained her first television role in Lexx. She also moderated the children Pumuckl TV broadcast on German TV . While Lexx was on hiatus between seasons 1 and 2, Eva appeared in the ZDF series Rosa Roth and the ARD series The Beach Club as well as appearing in the Rosamunde Pilcher film Two Sisters. Due to scheduling conflicts, she was ultimately unable to commit to the second season of the show, as, with a two-year gap between the first and second seasons, she accepted other projects and thus, when season two was ultimately greenlit, she was unavailable. She was, however, able to free up enough time in her schedule to appear in the first two episodes, allowing the writers to deal with her character properly.
