Hamline University is a private liberal arts college in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. Founded in 1854, Hamline is the oldest institution of higher learning in Minnesota. It is one of five Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities and is named after Bishop Leonidas Lent Hamline; it maintains an affiliation with the United Methodist Church. The school has a total enrollment of approximately 4,900 undergraduate and postgraduate students. In 2010 it ranked first in Minnesota and ninth in the U.S. within the U.S. News and World Report Regional Universities—Midwest category. Linda... N. Hanson is the university's 19th president, inaugurated in 2005. Hamline's School of Law is noted for its prestigious Alternative Dispute Resolution program, ranking second in the nation. Hamline was named in honor of Leonidas Lent Hamline, a bishop of the Methodist Church whose interest in the frontier led him to donate $25,000 toward the building of an institution of higher learning in what was then the territory of Minnesota. Today, a statue of Bishop Hamline sculpted by the late professor of art Michael Price stands on campus.
