"What Time Is It?" It's time to watch the sequel to the Nielsen-busting hit HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL! This Disney Channel original movie brings back all the beloved characters from the first film, but it moves the action from the school year to the sizzling summer. Just because school's out, it doesn't mean that Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Chad (Corbin Bleu), and Taylor (Monique Coleman) just get to sit around. Instead, the four students get summer jobs at the Lava Springs Country Club, and they won't even get a break from Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale). Her family owns the club, and her biggest goal for the summer is to take Troy from Gabriella. With all the added attention, Troy gets a taste of the good life and it makes him wonder if he should be with Gabriella or enjoy the finer things. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 features more of the upbeat musical numbers that made the first film such a smash hit including "Fabulous," "Work This Out," "You Are the Music in Me," and "Gotta Go My Own Way."

1.00 1/5.0
Pros:
"You Are the Music in Me" is tolerable but not a hit
Cons:
awful songs, a new level of shallowness, Sharpay = Paris Hilton, no more charm

Review: The death of the High School Musical series starts here.

Even More Hype, and Less Entertaining Sep 15, 2008
3.00 3/5.0
Pros:
Typical Disney wholesome movie with a happily-ever-after ending, some entertaining songs and dances.
Cons:
A few unexplained plot holes, some songs and dances not as good as the original.

Review: I would recommend it for the target pre-teen audience, but don't expect the fireworks of HSM 1.
