March of the Volunteers is the national anthem of the People's Republic of China , written by the noted poet and playwright Tian Han with music composed by Nie Er. This composition is a musical march. The piece was first performed as part of a 1934 Shanghai play and its original lyrics are the... official lyrics of the national anthem. In 2004, a provision that the March of the Volunteers be the national anthem was added to the Constitution of the People's Republic of China as Article 136. March of the Volunteers was composed by Nie Er to a text by Tian Han in 1934. Popular stories suggest, however, that Tian wrote it on a tobacco paper after being arrested in Shanghai and thrown into a Kuomintang jail in 1935. The song was featured as the theme song of the 1935 patriotic film Sons and Daughters in a Time of Storm, also known as "Children of the Storm," a story about an intellectual who leaves to fight in the Second Sino-Japanese War.

The Sinai and Palestine Campaigns took place in the Middle Eastern Theatre of World War I. A series of battles were fought between British Empire,... German Empire and Ottoman Empire forces from 26 January 1915 to 31 October 1918, when the Armistice of Mudros was signed between the Ottoman Empire and the Entente Powers. On 26 January 1915, an Ottoman force invaded the Sultanate of Egypt, a British protectorate, and unsuccessfully attempted to interrupt the vital supply line running through the Suez Canal. Early in 1916 British Empire units began to push their defences of the Suez Canal into the Sinai Peninsula. Several engagements were fought about Katia and other oases. In August 1916 two British Empire divisions at Romani were attacked by a substantial Ottoman army which was defeated. These two divisions; the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division and the 52nd Division pushed on across the northern Sinai fighting a substantial Ottoman rearguard at Bir el Abd, and Ottoman garrisons at Magdhaba and Rafa .

An annual APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is attended by the heads of government of all APEC members except the Republic of China , which is represented under the name Chinese Taipei by a ministerial-level official. The location of the meeting rotates annually among the member economies, and until 2011, a famous tradition involved the attending leaders dressing in a national costume of the host member.

He was nicknamed Paopao because the high-energy child was always rolling around.
