Humberto Quintero [oom-BERR-to kin-TAIR-o] is a Major League Baseball catcher for the Kansas City Royals. Quintero was outrighted to the Round Rock Express in June 2007 after Eric Munson was promoted to the Houston Astros. Previously, Quintero played with the San Diego Padres . He bats and throws right-handed. One of eight San Diego catchers behind the plate in 2003–04, Baseball America ranked Quintero number 19 in the Padres farm system. He made two trips to the Padres in 2004, starting 19 games. He went 9-for-18 in his first five games after his first recall from Triple-A Portland... Beavers, on June 21. During his first season with the Astros in 2005, he led the team to it's first World Series entry. The Astros would eventually lose the 2005 World Series to the Chicago White Sox within a 4-game sweep. He was considered the incumbent starting catcher for the 2009 season due to his experience over J.R. Towles and Lou Palmisano but was used as a backup catcher after the team came to terms with Ivan Rodriguez on March 16, 2009.
